The epic return of Mad Max

Mad Max, George Miller’s epic saga starring Mel Gibson, was made in 1979 and became one of the highest-grossing movies of its time. It was so successful that not only did it spawn two big-budget sequels and the career of one of Australia’s favourite actors, but for over twenty years, it also held the Guinness record for the most profitable film ever made.

Max is back on the big screen, 35 years later – only this time, Mel is missing. Mad Max: Fury Road is the latest sequel, and stars Tom Hardy as the new incarnation of Mad Max Rockatansky.

Once again, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic desert landscape where society is desperately fighting for survival. Max is still battling for peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child. This time around, he is protecting Furiosa (Charlize Theron) – a rebel trying to escape the evil clutches of a freaky warlord trying to stop her from reaching her homeland.

But let’s face it, if you’re just dying to see the new Mad Max film, the story is probably the least of your concerns – it’s the action you’re after. And, judging by the trailer, it will not disappoint – unless of course all the good bits have been crammed into the trailer, which, let’s face it, does happen quite often. Still, it’s a very impressive and action-packed preview, and hopefully the remaining 118 minutes follow suit.

Why not watch the trailer and judge for yourself?
