Best free online movies and TV

At a time when paid entertainment streaming services are all the rage, finding free, legal ways to enjoy a movie or television show online can be a task. Unless you know where to go, of course.

Here are five ways to watch movies and TV shows online for free!

1. Vimeo
If you’re into indie art, this is your one-stop shop. After YouTube, Vimeo is next in line when it comes to size and popularity. It hosts thousands of independent filmmakers, who are looking for an audience with whom to share their award-winning filmic projects. And being mobile-friendly with an HD-capable upload service, you’ll have the flexibility to watch high quality video wherever you go.

Wondering where to start? Vimeo’s Staff Picks is full of gems that range from drama, documentary, sci-fi and more!

2. SBS on Demand
By now, this well-loved streaming service from SBS needs no introduction – but it certainly rates a mention for quality and quantity!

With free access to SBS’s programs, popular movies and live events, watching your favourite Hollywood movie (or discovering a new underground film or TV show) has never been easier. All you need is to set up an account and you’re off.

3. ABC iView
Missed the latest episode of your favourite ABC TV show? iView is the ABC’s free online media player, allowing you to stream TV shows directly to your computer – for free! You’ll be able to watch the more recent two or three episodes of currently-airing shows, as well as full seasons of many older shows in the archive.

4. Classic Cinema Online
Old Hollywood cinema buffs are going to drool over this one. As if the name doesn’t give it away immediately, Classic Cinema Online features films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, the era of black-and-white, and of artistically-painted movie posters. The deeper you dig, the more gold you’ll find: classics such as Gregory Peck’s Moby Dick and the original Lone Ranger.

5. Sony Crackle
There’s no shortage of entertainment here. Owned by Sony, Sony Crackle is a great free streaming service for those who don’t want to sign up for a paid one, such as Netflix or Stan. There are hundreds of high-quality movies and TV shows to choose from in the genres of comedy, drama, old horror and more. You’ll find everything, from classics like Gattaca and The Revenge of Frankenstein, to newer Hollywood flicks, like You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. There are also lots of TV shows, from Ripley’s Believe it or Not and The Jeffersons, to Days of our Lives.
