Best way to learn a language for free

“I’m going to learn French!” is much easier said than done. But as the year kicks off it’s time to start following up on those pesky and often optimistic resolutions made over a glass of sparkling on New Year’s Eve.

Luckily, these websites and apps are designed to help people at all levels and abilities learn the languages they’ve always dreamed of speaking.

Duolingo
It’s free now, and it promises to be free forever. Duolingo has a fun, game-like approach to learning a language. If you have some experience with the language you choose, you can complete a test and begin learning from you level. If you’re a beginner, you can select how much time you’ll realistically be able to commit to the app and proceed accordingly. If you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to learn a language, this is the app for you.

Busuu
Enter a vast – 50 million native speakers kind of vast – community that allows you to learn languages in social conversation with others. If you want to join a global community alongside 90 million other learners, and learn to speak a language in just 10 minutes a day, Busuu is a good choice.

Babbel
Interactive dialogue and recognition technology will help you gain the confidence and ability to speak accurately. ‘Bite-size’ lessons of around 10 to 15 minutes are designed to fit into your schedule. Babbel also allows you to select a course specific to your interests, whether it be business, food or travel. You can access lessons from your desktop, tablet or smartphone, so you can learn on the go.

Have you ever learnt another language? Would you consider using a free app or website to help you?
