How to make a photo slideshow

Want to set up a slideshow for a birthday or anniversary, or perhaps to show off your latest travel photos? Find out how you can make a simple slideshow on your Mac or PC.

Windows 7
Before you get started on your slideshow, you will need to place all the pictures you would like to have in your slideshow into a single folder.

Once you have done this, click the Start button and then click Pictures (located on the right hand side, underneath your username). Now navigate to the folder you created earlier, or any folder that contains pictures, then click the Slideshow button located at the top of the window.

A slideshow will now start running in fullscreen, if you wish to exit the slideshow you can press the ESC key on your keyboard or you can right-click on the slideshow and then click exit.

The slideshow will run in the order in which the photos were arranged, so if you wish to have them in a specific order, you may have to rename them. If you want to adjust slideshow settings, including speed, looping and randomising, right-click on the slideshow while it is running.

Windows 8 and 10
Once again, before you get started on your slideshow, you will need to place all the pictures you want to have in your slideshow into a single folder.

Once you have done this, open this folder and then open up the first picture in the folder. Now that the picture is open, click the round button located underneath the picture in the centre of the screen. A slideshow will now start running in full-screen, if you wish to exit the slideshow you can press the ESC key on your keyboard or you can right-click on the slideshow and then click exit.

The slideshow will run in the order in which the photos were arranged, so if you wish to have them in a specific order, you may have to rename them. If you want to adjust slideshow settings, simply right-click on the slideshow while it is running. From here you can adjust the slideshow speed, whether or not it will loop, or set the picture order to random.

Mac
Open up the Photos app (formerly known as iPhoto). If you can’t find the app, hold down the Command key on your keyboard and press the spacebar to open up Spotlight Search, then search for the app.

Once the app is open, select the photos you would like to have in your slideshow and click the Add (+) button located on the right hand side of the window, then click Slideshow and type in a name for your slideshow.

If you wish to add more photos to a slideshow, repeat the procedure above, but, this time select the existing slideshow.

You can only add photos from one date at a time, so make sure that you click the Add button each time you select photos from a different date.

If there aren’t any pictures in the Photos app, you can add some by clicking File > Import.

Once you have made a slideshow, you can access it by clicking on Projects, located in a tab at the top of the window or in the sidebar on the left-hand side.

You can customise the order of your photos by clicking and dragging them around at the bottom of the window. You can adjust your theme, music or timing on the right-hand side of the window by clicking the corresponding icons.

To view your slideshow, click the play button located underneath the image.

Now you can sit back and enjoy the show.
