Increase your phone’s photo storage

If you’re one of the many Australians who are snap-happy smartphone photographers then, no doubt, you’ve seen the dreaded ‘storage almost full’ message pop up quite often. What’s worse than this message appearing? It usually happens just as you want to take an important photo.

More often than not, our phones are filled with pics. If only there was some way of taking as many as we want to without having to worry about quickly expending our phone’s storage space…

Well, hold on to your horses. There is.

Avast Photo Space is a brand new free app that shrinks and optimises your high-quality photos to reduce the amount of occupied storage. In fact, Photo Space reduces your photo file size by up to seven times, which means you get seven times more space for your photos and any other apps and files you want to store on your phone. The best part is that it does it all without reducing the quality of your images.

When you take a photo, Avast Photo Space uploads the high-quality version to a cloud account of your choosing, and leaves a smaller file on your phone. The smaller file is perfect for viewing on smaller screens and when you want to access the high-quality version, you simply do so via your cloud account.

And you can choose to have this happen automatically, or you can do it manually.

The app is still in its infancy, so there may be a few kinks yet to be ironed. But it also means that there’ll be more features on the way.

Avast Photo Space is currently only available for iOS devices, although it’s believed that an Android version is on its way. In the meantime, Android owners can use Avast Cleanup to optimise the storage space on their phones.

A word of warning though: it always pays back up your phone before using these apps.
