Mobile users cut off for 10 days

The Telstra mobile service in three busy suburbs will be shut down for up to 10 days. Not only will Telstra customers not be able to make or receive calls in these blackspots, but emergency services including triple-0 will also be inaccessible.

The three Queensland suburbs are Gaythorne, Mitchelton and Everton Park and the shutdown is the result of building works at the Brookside Shopping centre, which requires Telstra to switch off part of its mobile infrastructure.

Telstra customers in Gaythorne will be affected between 30 January and 9 February. Customers in Mitchelton will be affected between 12 and 22 February while Everton Park customers will have their services interrupted between 23 February and 7 March.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the disruption may cause but wish to advise our customers that the disruption is the result of third party works,” said Telstra area general manager May Boisen.

Telstra has advised customers to activate ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ on their phones and to visit a Telstra store for further assistance.

What do you think? Are you affected by these outages? Are you concerned for your health and safety during this downtime period?
