Phone cuts Apple to the core

A new Chinese smartphone has just overtaken Apple as the world’s best-selling smartphone and it’s not too hard to see why.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro has one of the best cameras in the market, an OLED display, superfast operating system, top of the line hardware and mouth-watering design.

It’s little wonder it has taken on the big guns and won.

The Huawei screen is 6 inches with a 2160×1080 pixel resolution that takes up the entire face of the phone.

It’s got 128GB of storage, 6GB of RAM, a scratch-resistant glass back, fingerprint scanner, USB-C charging port, a powerful single speaker and runs on Android software.

It’s water resistant and can be submerged in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes.

But the real seller for this phone is the camera – a collaboration with industry leading lens company Leica.

For anyone who knows their cameras, Leica lenses are superb, especially sharp and easily the nicest lens for shooting in black and white.

And this smartphone camera is awesome, with a 12MP sensor for shooting colour and a 20MP sensor for shooting black and white and great exposure in both bright and low light situations.

And that’s just the back camera. The front camera is a wide-angle 8MP beastie perfect for shooting super sharp solo and group selfies.

Oh, and it also has a ‘beauty mode’, which smooths out wrinkles and imperfections.

And for anyone sick of iPhone’s flimsy battery life, Huawei claims its battery will last for up to two days between charges.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro retails for around $A1099 – around the same price as an iPhone 8 but with a much larger screen, better battery life and camera.
