Air NZ calls out Emirates on Twitter

Emirates has recently released an advert starring its new ambassador Gerry the goose, and Air New Zealand has grabbed the chance to try to ruffle some feathers.

The Fly Better campaign premiered at the start of September, introducing Emirates’ new CGI ambassador to the world. Gerry the goose has decided to try out Emirates’ new premium economy cabin instead of taking the time to fly himself.

The problem Air New Zealand may have had with the campaign is that Gerry is very similar to Dave the CGI goose that featured in Air NZ adverts back in 2016.

Air NZ has posted a video to its Twitter with Dave congratulating Gerry on choosing an easier way to travel.

However, Dave jests: “Only problem is, he got the wrong airline”.

It adds: “What are you doing on Emirates Gerry? It was supposed to be Air New Zealand!”

Emirates took Air NZ’s video as a bit of fun, as it was probably intended, and posted the reply below to its Twitter feed.

“Don’t wing it, Dave,” the ad declared. “You definitely want to fly with Emirates for the long haul. And Dubai is a sweet spot for migratory stops. See you here!”

Whether the two airlines collaborated on either ad is unclear, though Air New Zealand is listed as a travel partner on the Emirates website.
