Best movies to watch for travel

While it’s hard to beat the experience of travelling, seeing destinations through another person’s eyes can sometimes be just as enjoyable. So, here are six movies that will inspire your bucket list.

1. Italy: Letters to Juliet
Set in Verona, Letters to Juliet follows the story of a young woman named Sophie, who is visiting the city with her fiancé. The movie offers an enchanting look at the stunning Italian city, which draws you in and makes you want to explore and taste the flavours for yourself, as Sophie embarks on a journey through the Italian countryside. If this movie doesn’t put Verona and Italy at the top of your bucket list it’s hard to imagine what would.

2. Greece: Mamma Mia
Mamma Mia is the story of a young bride-to-be trying to uncover who her real father is. Made famous by ABBA, the movie is set in the Greek islands. With stunning footage of the scenery and landscape, including the whitewashed walls and contrasting blue synopsis with Greece, Mamma Mia makes you want to get back to basics and enjoy the simple island life of sun and sparkling seas.

3. Tuscany: Under the Tuscan Sun
This may be a romance, but the real star of this movie is Tuscany. It is a stunning backdrop for this story, and the movie makes you want to sell up shop and choose a tree change in the form of a vineyard in a small Italian village. The best part? Tuscany totally lives up to the hype surrounding it.

4. Japan: Lost in Translation
Japan is not the easiest city to portray, but Lost in Translation does a pretty darn good job. Captures the non-stop energy of Tokyo, which can be quite intimidating and cause culture shock at first. As the two characters come out of their shells, the sights, sounds and all-round unique experiences will have you booking a flight before the credits roll.

5. Australia: Tracks
While Wolf Creek would exactly have you running to outback Australia, Tracks may make you keener to get off the beaten track. It follows the true story of Robyn Davidson, a young woman who in 1977 undertook a solo trek from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean. Accompanied only by her faithful dog and four camels, the movie features stunning panoramic views of the Australian Outback.

6. Everywhere: Eat Pray Love
Eat Pray Love is a beautiful movie that follows the story of Liz who becomes acutely aware of how unhappy and unfulfilled she is in her life. Choosing to do something about it, Liz eats her way through Italy, prays her way through India and finds love in Bali. The perfect movie for any single or solo women (and men), Eat Pray Love will have you wanting to pack everything up and go on a soul-searching trip of your own.
