How Venice is benefiting from COVID-19 lockdown

Crystal clear canals and wildlife moving into town are some of the benefits of lockdown.

The streets and canals are empty of tourists. While the city itself is suffering from the loss of its main source of income, it seems there are still some other benefits of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Venice’s usually murky canals have transformed in crystal clear waters, a direct result of the significant reductions in boat and tourist traffic since the lockdown.

While the coronavirus pandemic has had drastic effects on global and local economies, it has had a number of benefits for the planet and positive effects on the environment as millions across the world are placed under lockdown.

These amazing videos are proof positive.

"lockdowns" we don't have YET, as most sensible people are following the limited travel advice, and just staying inside as much as they can. Sensible. Every cloud has a silver lining.

I am so impressed by the way we (mostly) have come together, as a people, to do what needs to be done. Given that Scomo has so little credibility, and most people simply don't trust him or his ilk, we have listened to the expert advice, which he very correctly has only modified slightly despite his political aversion to it.

I am impressed with the Health Minister, and surprisingly, Dan Tehan. Never thought I would say that.
I am so proud of us all , for actually coming together, caring about and looking after your neighbours.
I am wondering how Scomo will answer the qustion of: why did he listen to the experts about a pandemic, but ignore the experts when the whole earth is under threat from climate change?
I am so looking foreward to the time when Scomo says OK it's all over, and tries to take away all of the socialist things that are proving to be what we should have had years ago. What a fun time that will be.

As for the loss of freedom, well, you don't know what you've got til it's gone. Now we know, so we might value it more when (IF) we get it back.

But AFTER the footy and after the church...
Too little, too late. (Bushfires anyone?)
The warnings went out in late January. But we had to wait untul after "Australia Day"...
Then it was only people from the epicentre, and from certain countries.
Borders should have been closed then. No if's or but's. No planes destined for Australia should have been allowed to take off. No ships boound for Australia should have left port.
Those at sea (or in the air) to return to port unless insufficient fuel (etc) then allowed to proceed to Australia. On arrival, ALL passengers and crew who need to go ashore (ie An Australian citizen) should be checked (screened).
ALL passengers and crew (again, Aussies only) quarantined in (empty) hotels.
Yes, there would have been a few cases crept in before the extent of the virus spread had been realised, but we wouldn't even have the need for the lockdown.
Yes, Scomo has listened to the experts, now. But it was always, "Try this"... "No, that didn't work. Try that... No..."

to be like this for some time, the last thing I want hear is political rubbish from any party, this
is all about commonsense and i'm glad to see that parliament is working together not arguing
and carrying on like fools, this is not about Bill,Scomo,or anyone else would have done better
    or worse.
