How to have a holiday at home

Easter travel is off, and rightly so, but you don’t have to cancel your camping experience!

Normally this time of year is when many Australian families would usually be packing up the camping gear and preparing to hit the road, with upwards of 300,000 Australians usually camping over the Easter long weekend.

Instead Australians are being encouraged to become ‘Camp at Home Heroes’, thanks to a an initiative designed to allow Australians of all ages to engage in home-based fun activities and share these experiences via social media to engage with others while camping at home.

With more than 711,000 registered camper trailers, campervans, caravans, motorhomes and other RVs registered in Australia, and most of them idle right now, this is a great opportunity to set up camp at home!

A holiday at home could mean a backyard tent or a caravan in the driveway.

Caravanning and camping are proven to provide many physical and psychological benefits – and in these challenging times, these benefits are more crucial than usual.

“Remaining positive and trying to continue some normality in our lives is more important than ever in these challenging times,” said Keelan Howard from the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.

“Camping offers so many benefits to our health, both physically and mentally, and these benefits can still be enjoyed from your own home.”

To get involved, families are encouraged to visit the Let’s Go Caravan and Camping Facebook page for competitions and tips for camping at home and to share videos/images with the tag #holidayathome and #campathomeheroes.

In these times of social distancing, Camp at Home Heroes is designed for you to enjoy with the people who live in your house only. Be sure to follow government regulations and don’t invite your friends or neighbours to visit until it is safe to do so!

What do you have planned for the difficult Easter period, given the restrictions on travel?
