The future of air cabins

As people start to think about air travel again, an innovative company has suggested two solutions to stop the spread of germs.

Aviointeriors, a company that produces aircraft cabin interiors and passenger seats, has come up with two solutions to stop the spread of germs in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.

The first solution is called Glassafe and features a transparent partition that can be installed on existing seats between passengers.

The material is easy to clean and because it is transparent reduces the feeling of being boxed-in, while also minimising the sharing the air between passengers and lessening the possibility of virus contamination.

According to the company, Glassafe can be supplied in an opaque material with different degrees of transparency.

The second solution is much more radical and draws inspiration from Ancient Rome.

It suggests reversing the direction of  seats centred between two others, which ensures the maximum isolation possible between passengers seated next to each other, and is called the Janus Seat after the two-faced god of Ancient Rome.

While passengers seated in the side seats, aisle and fuselage, continue to be positioned in the flight direction as usual, the passenger sitting in the centre is facing backwards.

The arrangement of the Janus Seat allows all three passengers to be separated with a shield made of transparent material that isolates them from each other, creating a protective barrier for everyone.

Using this solution means that each passenger has their own space and is isolated from others, even from people who walk through the aisle.

The centre seat that faces backwards is surrounded on three sides by a high shield that prevents breathing directly in the direction of the adjacent seats.

Do you think we will see these features introduced into air cabins soon? Which option would you prefer?
