Tour idea for the sustainably minded – and those who need a laugh

One of the most common ways for newcomers to any foreign city to get the lay of the land os to embark on a hop-on, hop-off tour.

But let’s face it, you’re probably only going to get a very superficial tour and, well, those big buses don’t exactly have the smallest carbon footprint.

For those of you who’d like to see the city through the eyes of a local, or bloody close to them, then this hilarious hop-on, hop-off tour might be the ticket. If indeed it actually exists.

At the very least, an advertisement for it does.

It recently appeared in Glasgow showing off a new mode of sustainable transport for tourists: piggyback tours with “friendly, clean carriers that come to you”.

You can “hop on and off at your leisure” and it’s “greener AND faster than the bus”, says this flyer posted to a lamppost in the city.

“An interesting alternative to the bus, available in Glasgow according to this ad!” posted Twitter user Jennifer Robertson.

But before you start planning your trip to Glasgow, check the fineprint at the bottom of the flyer, which reads: “All enquiries to @themisfortuneteller”

It’s the brainchild of Themisfortuneteller – a local ‘entrepreneur’ who offers ‘dark therapy’ and fortune-telling that promises to “deliver the sweet sting of truth”.

He’s also responsible for some fairly funny maxims and jibes on his Instagram account.

You might (one day) spot the themisfortuneteller offering peculiar prophecies at an event or function, or you can head to the website to pick up an off-beat print or two.

But you probably won’t find him offering the piggyback tour – or will you?

“It started out as a bit of fun for me,” he told Travel Weekly.

“I put up posters for fake businesses all around east London, and refashioned ‘London Piggyback Tours’ for Glasgow, as we are hosting COP26 in November and I thought I’d claim the space.

“It’s gotten such good responses that I think I’d like to do it for real though, with a few hulking rugby lads to do the carrying. Video the whole thing. Think that could be hilarious.”
