Around the world in 19 months
SJ Fallick

It’s not quite 80 days, but one woman has taken the term ‘bucket list’ to heart and ticked off all 196 countries around the world in just under 19 months.

A feat most of us could only ever dream of, at 27, Cassandra De Pecol has become the first woman to travel to every country in the world, smashing the previous record significantly. After setting off from Washington, Connecticut in July 2015, Cassandra finally completed her world traveller title after a total of 18 months and 26 days on the road – beating the previous record by over half the time.

Cassandra captured her solo travel adventure and her unique insights into every country on her blog, Expedition 196, which she shared with The Telegraph. Here are her top 10 countries that everyone should visit at least once in their life and why.

10. USA – “Fall in New England is something everyone should experience.”

9. CostaRica – “Monkeys, fresh fruit, good music and volcanoes … need I say more?”

8. Peru – “The Amazon rainforest and Aguas Calientes.”

7. Tunisia – “To experience northern African culture with a Middle Eastern feel and an immense amount of archaeological history.”

6. Oman – “To immerse yourself in the desert and mountains, while learning from locals who live in the mountains, it’s a whole different lifestyle.”

5. Pakistan – “To get a true sense of raw, authentic Asian culture, and for the food.”

4. Vanuatu – “To experience the process of how Kava is made and to meet some of the kindest people.”

3. Maldives – “To see some of the bluest water, whitest sand and most stunning sand banks in the world.”

2. Bhutan – “To learn the ethics of peaceful living.”

1. Mongolia – “To be immersed in the remote wilderness and to ride the wild horses.”

How many of Cassandra’s top 10 have you been to? If you had to recommend one country from your travels that everyone should visit before they die, what would it be and why?

Greece for fabulous cheap food and blue, blue seas and skies. New Zealand for pristine aqua lakes and stunning fjords and mountains.

I don't think she really spent enough time in each place to really experience it. Chris Guillebeau is doing (maybe he is finished by now) the same but is taking years to complete. I find it hard to believe she says Mongolia is her number one. And which place did she go to in Australia?

Machu Pichu is stunning as if flying over the volcanoes there. Lovely country, nice people. I'm lucky enough to have a frien in Costa Rica so loved it there. Uou must travelled to Greece at a different time to us. Rudest people I've ever met in my life! Though, how the Greek Islands didn't make her list is beyond me! Abd the people were nice too. I love England as well ( just realised how lucky I've been!). I love Egypt, who wouldn't! People are just lovely wherever you go. I'd recommend it to anyone. Safe as houses. I'm sorry, but she enjoyed Pakistan - it may be very, very unfair if me but I wouldn't feel at all safe there!
