World first stops for CMV

Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) will become the world’s first cruise line to visit South Australian port Wallaroo when its new ship Vasco da Gama docks there in its 2019/20 season.

Kuri Bay (WA), Portland (Vic), Phillip Island (Vic) and Sandakan (Borneo) will be maiden calls for CMV in 2019/20.

Homeporting in Adelaide and Fremantle – and also cruising from Sydney and Singapore – Vasco da Gama is expected to carry almost 6000 more guests throughout the 2019/20 season than CMV’s previous Australasian season.

From two-night Western Australian weekend escapes, to 10-night voyages around Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia, exotic escapes to Southeast Asia, and an epic 45-night voyage from Singapore to London to round out the season, Vasco da Gama will continue to enhance CMV’s reputation for “personalised service and relaxed country-club style of cruising, where guests can enjoy a greater choice of facilities and dining experiences in a stylish setting”.

Adding Broome to CMV’s itineraries in 2019/20 is expected to be a drawcard for guests, while favourites such as Geraldton (WA), Melbourne and Semarang (Indonesia) will return.

“Cruise & Maritime Voyages has a high level of repeat patronage so we wanted to offer a range of new options on board Vasco da Gama, and accommodate the increased demand for our cruises,” said CMV Australia’s Managing Director, Dean Brazier.

“Our 2019/20 itineraries will make compelling tourist regions such as Tasmania, Australia’s North West and Southeast Asia more accessible and more affordable for guests to experience.”

And it seems the new ports are excited to receive their new guest, too.

“As the global cruise industry continues to grow, we are excited to see independent cruise lines such as Cruise & Maritime Voyages expand into new destinations and extend their itineraries. This benefits passengers who get to enjoy a range of inspiring on-shore experiences throughout Australia,” said chief executive of Australian Cruise Association, Jill Abel.

South Australian Tourism Commission Chief Executive, Rodney Harrex, said securing increased commitment from CMV is a major achievement for the State.

“Being the first ship to visit all four of our ports in one cruise is not only an unforgettable experience for our visitors, but a great opportunity for South Australians to jump on board and explore their own backyard,” said Mr Harrex.

And as inspiring as the new ports and the old favourites may be, guests may still find it difficult to even step off the vessel.

Vasco da Gama offers two gorgeous pools, the state-of-the-art Jade Wellness Centre and Spa, a two-tiered theatre, and five inviting bars and lounges. Six dining venues feature cuisine from around the world and the ‘Chef’s Table’ will provide a degustation menu plus the opportunity to watch the chefs at work.

Vasco da Gama‘s inaugural Australasian season also coincides with CMV’s 10th year of operations in 2019.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages accommodates couples, groups and solo travellers – Vasco da Gama offers 40 cabins for guests travelling by themselves.
