Regular theatre goers will appreciate the work that goes into producing a show, even one of a modest nature. A new exhibition allows Queenslanders to take a peak behind the curtains.
Billie Brown is a stalwart of Queensland theatre, enjoying the position of Artist in Residence at Queensland’s Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in 2005. Now a writer and director, much of Brown’s work forms the basis of the Making the Play exhibition now showing at the QPAC.
The exhibition also celebrates the role of the School of Arts as a community hub in country Queensland, with the touring companies taking their productions on the road, reaching isolated areas and making theatre more accessible.
The exhibition will run until 12 September 2009 and will accompany Brown’s new play, The School of Arts, described by the man himself as a “celebration, a comedy and a whodunit”. The play draws on Brown’s own memories of growing up in Biloela and Queensland’s own history.
The play will run from 13 July until 1 August and tickets are now on sale.
