Pfizer vaccine safe despite Norwegian deaths, say health authorities

Is the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine safe?

Health minister Greg Hunt is assuring Australians it is after it was reported that up to 30 Norwegians who had been given the vaccine had died.

“We don’t know yet whether this is a function simply of age and people who are older and sadly facing the natural loss of their life, or whether there’s any causation that hasn’t been asserted as yet,” Mr Hunt said on Sunday. “But we’re proceeding with an abundance of caution.”

Side-effects including nausea and fever might have contributed to the deaths, but Norway has been vaccinating elderly people with serious underlying diseases, and no “concrete link” between the vaccine and the fatalities has yet been proven, reports Nine.

Pfizer says there was no “signal of serious allergic reactions associated with the vaccine”.

“Pfizer will continue to work closely with the government to support their vaccine implementation plans,” it says.

ABC News reports that all the deaths occurred among patients in nursing homes and all were over the age of 80.

Australia has ordered 10 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Approval for the Pfizer vaccine is expected within weeks and authorities were planning to begin using it in mid-February, starting with 678,000 people, including quarantine and border workers, frontline health workers, and aged care and disability staff and residents.

Mr Hunt said he had contacted the Australian medical regulator the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) requesting it seek additional information from Pfizer and the Norwegian medical regulator.

“(Foreign minister) Marise Payne will task DFAT (the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) to seek advice directly from the Norwegian government.

“At this point there’s no change, but we’ll follow the medical regulator’s advice,” Mr Hunt said. “We’re proceeding with an abundance of caution.”

The Pfizer or Moderna vaccines have been administered to 30,000 Norwegians since late December.

Infectious diseases specialist Associate Professor Sanjaya Senanayake told 9News the vaccine may not be responsible for the deaths in Norway.

“This could just be coincidental, that you have people with chronic health problems who just succumb to their chronic illnesses rather than due to the vaccine itself,” Prof. Senanayake said.

Aged care residents and older Australians were scheduled to be vaccinated first in Australia.

The Norwegian Medicines Agency said nine people who took the vaccination had serious side-effects, including strong discomfort and severe fever, and seven had less serious side-effects.

“The deaths were associated with fever, nausea and diarrhoea, which are relatively common short-lived effects that a number of people experience after vaccination,” a TGA spokesperson said late on Sunday.

“Indications from Norway are that these were not typical aged care residents who died but those who were very frail and had terminal conditions.

“It is not expected that these common adverse reactions following immunisation will be of significance in the vast majority of individuals vaccinated with the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.”

Professor Kristine Macartney, director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, told Nine that Australians should not be concerned about the reports from Norway.

“We shouldn’t at all be alarmed. We should just wait for the usual processes to occur, and any adjustments to clinical guidance or the product information will come if needed, but it’s too early to say whether that would change the program,” she said.

“As vaccines are rolled out to millions, and ultimately billions of people across the world, we will see some flags pop up, but it’s very important for people to understand that those will be really thoroughly investigated.

“I expect it to be approved and enable an Australian rollout commencing next month, including to the elderly.”

Professor Greg Dore, an infectious diseases physician and epidemiologist at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney, told Nine no deaths related to the Pfizer vaccine have been reported in the US, where nearly two million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered.

The US Centres for Disease Control has 4393 cases of adverse outcomes including allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.

“Data from clinical trials plus this early rollout data from other countries should be sufficient for the TGA to make an assessment of safety,” he said.

There are another 10 deaths in similarly frail elderly in Germany who also received the Pfizer vaccine. At this stage, I would agree with Greg Dore (someone I know personally and professionally) and the other medical experts. These deaths were seen in very frail people whose life expectancy was severely limited (to just weeks or perhaps months). The question right now should be whether this cohort should be vaccinated at all, rather than questioning whether anyone should receive this vaccine.

Even if the cause of death is directly related to the vaccine, given the number of people already vaccinated round the world with the same one, the death rate is very very small. We must wait for the results of the investigation into the cause of deaths in these cases to really know why they died, but I don’t think there should be a delay in roll out once the TGA approve it – if they do. Thus far it has proven safe for most people, but there may be a rethink needed concerning the very old and very frail. After all, there will be others who cannot be vaccinated e.g. those who have known serious allergic reactions, which is exactly why there needs to be high vaccination rates to protect those who cannot receive it.

There is SO much more to these issues of untried vaccines! Plus of course there are other findings that need to be fully investigated, which amazingly, aren’t being investigated. There are many medical reports, even from hospitals in Wuhan that are being suppressed, of success with defeating COVID with even huge doses of Intravenous Vit. C. Building a strong immune system daily gives individuals a far better chance of survival. Here’s one brief introduction, from the orthomolecular.org site, published over a year ago:
      “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

      Hospital-based Intravenous Vitamin C Treatment

(OMNS February 2, 2020) No matter which hospital a coronavirus patient may seek help from, the question is, Will they be able to leave walking out the front door, or end up being wheeled out the basement backdoor? Prompt administration of intravenous vitamin C, in high doses, can make the difference.
Abundant clinical evidence confirms vitamin C’s effectiveness when used in sufficient quantity. [1]
Physicians have demonstrated the powerful antiviral action of vitamin C for decades. [2]” (see orthomolecular.org for links to reports).
There is also an amazing report from medical scientists involved in COVID research revealing that CV19 is in fact responding to antibiotics – and a nurse in a major hospital near me confirmed they know antibiotics treat this infection. She said they are used for CV, but only when it’s in the final stages, before a person dies. Unfortunately the report from these scientists I somehow deleted from my PC with other links on the subject, but these doctors are certainly not idiots and realise there is much that hasn’t been assessed and investigated as to the TRUE realities behind reports we’re being given. We need to take the matter more seriously and demand to know just what is in these vaccines. It’s OUR bodies and lives that will be affected, after all.

P.S. There are also other conditions now being revealed in patients with CV19, such as associated bacterial and fungal infections being contracted – most likely a factor in why antibiotics are being found to ‘cure coronavirus’. You can read about this on the website of Scientific American. I don’t expect vaccines will be found to be a ‘cure-all’ as most people are presently being educated to believe – there appears to be many more factors that have to be taken into account in order to have a CV victim returned to good health – and most of all, safely. Until these vaccines are tried over a considerable period of time I think we’re taking a significant risk in simply putting “blind trust” in drug-distributing organisations.

Not all old people at all. There is one doctor aged in his 30’s who was given the Pfizer vaccine (totally healthy with no illnesses at all) and was dead in 3 days. I forgot the name of this doctor but I’m sure an internet search of it will bring the news item up. His wife is 100% sure there was nothing at all wrong with him and it was the vaccine that killed him. I don’t believe we’re being told all we need to know about any of these vaccines – and yet they’re trying to force us to have them. They haven’t even been tried to see if they are a problem to human beings yet.

SO unless you have a real reference and can supply it, I suggest you stop repeating stories that have no basis in truth and which can cause harm to others.

Please don’t accuse me of reporting untrue stories – the report was provided by reliable media from the USA – just because I forgot to note down the link doesn’t mean it’s not true! Of course, since I reported, and is now WIDELY known, even more results have been reported of deaths linked to Pfizer vaccine. Perhaps you should rather learn to question your own media reports more, for much is being concealed from what I’ve read on this subject. And of course, questioning the FACTS are what is needed, for it’s our lives that are to be affected by these vaccines. We have full right to be thoroughly informed and to choose what we want to do about vaccination.

P.S. For your information, I’ve copied another comment I posted here on this subject, in which you’ll find a couple of direct references to websites/reports on this subject. I suggest you wait until you’ve got far more information on ‘both sides’ of this ongoing debate, as of course we are all simply ‘guinea pigs’ in these very early stages of finding a safe and truly effective vaccine.

P.S. The doctor was in the USA but also can’t recall exactly where. It happened only a few days ago as I recall.

30,000 shots given since late december, and 30 are dead, seems a lot in a couple of weeks reagardless of other underlying conditionsl, then 4300 adverse reactions in the US; I don’t think I’ll be pushing my way to the front of the line just yet.

A bit more research please! There have been 42.2MILLION Pfizer vaccines given up to the 18 January. https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/

If the 30 deaths in Norway and the 10 in Germany are all we have to contend with, I’d say the odds are pretty good.

And adverse reactions can include anything from a sore spot on the arm at the site of the vaccination (just like many other vaccines), some people develop a low grade fever – exactly what you would expect as the immune system gears up to fight the intruder, and perhaps some mild nausea. In almost all cases these symptoms disappear in a day or so.

The other reported ‘ adverse events’ have been severe allergic reaction – although not in fact anaphylaxis – and has been noted in a few people with a history of severe allergies. This is a group of people who have now been advised to wait before getting the vaccine, and in fact a different vaccine may be possible for them down the track.

The point is for every vaccine for any disease, there are people who cannot have it for a number of different reasons. That is why in order for herd immunity to protect them over 90% of the population needs to be vaccinated. None of this is any different to any other vaccine. All this scaremongering is being circulated on social media by people who no nothing yet set themselves up as some sort of expert.

Just wait on the reports from the TGA. There are reasons why Australia has not given emergency approval like other countries and evaluating the safety of these new vaccines is one of them.

You obviously need to take life and death (yours) more seriously. Placing mere blind ‘trust’ in unknown, unproven and ‘guinea-pig stage’ drugs to be put in your body, is foolish.
