Murdoch Mysteries, based on the popular Maureen Jennings novels, follows a young detective named William Murdoch as attempts to solve a series of challenging murder mysteries in 1890s Toronto. Using the period’s burgeoning forensic techniques, Murdoch’s unconventional approach often baffles the minds of his contemporaries, as he tries to solve the city’s most gruesome murders.
Murdoch Mysteries celebrates its 100th episode during season eight, and will see Murdoch and his colleagues explore the world of corsets; the women’s suffrage movement; vaudeville; the silver boom in Ontario; the rise of the automobile; and the early days of organised crime on the Toronto waterfront. The new season delves into Murdoch’s origins, and features historical figures such as notorious lawman, gunslinger and sports writer Bat Masterson; outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; Teddy Roosevelt; Mark Twain; Thomas Edison and his son. And maybe we’ll hear wedding bells peal for William and Julia.
