Running out of space on your iPhone or iPad? These simple tips will help you to manage your downloads and free up some space on your device.
First things first, you should check how much free storage space you have on your device. To do this, open up the Settings app, then tap General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage. Here you will see how much space is being used on your device, as well as how much is free. Underneath this you will also see a list of your apps and how much space they are consuming. The list will be sorted to show those that are using the most storage space at the top, so if you see that anything you don’t use is taking up a lot of space, you may wish to delete it. By tapping an app you can see more information about it and the data it is using, as well as the option to delete it.
If photos are hogging a lot of your storage space, you can go through your photos and delete any that you don’t like. However, you may wish to consider using a free cloud storage solution. This will allow you to store your photos in the cloud, accessing them whenever you want without using any of your phone’s storage. This will, however, use a lot of internet data, so you may have to be careful to only access your photos while on wifi.
Music can be deleted by opening up the Music app then selecting the song, album or playlist you wish to delete. Now tap the More icon (shown as three dots) and tap Delete.
Videos, movies and TV shows can be deleted by opening up the Videos app, tapping Edit, then tapping the cross icon at the top left of an item. If you wish to delete individual episodes of a TV show, rather than the entire season, open up a season and find an episode you would like to delete. Now swipe your finger to the left over that episode on your device and a Delete option will appear. Tap it to confirm and delete the episode.
