Federal Budget 2018: Government aims to tackle healthy ageing

Aside from the tax cuts, one of the biggest packages in Tuesday’s Federal Budget was the More Choices For a Longer Life announcement.

The package introduced a host of measures aimed at helping Australians to live longer and healthier lives as well as being more prepared and independent.

Australians are now expected to live almost 10 years longer than they were 50 years ago, with our life expectancy the fifth highest in the OECD.

The Government’s More Choices For a Longer Life package includes online interactive checks at 45 and 65 across key areas of skills, finances and health. It is aimed at helping Australians plan in order to get the most out of their longer lives.

To support the mental and physical health of older Australians, the Government is spending $82.5 million to improve access to mental health services and $20 million to support older Australians to remain socially connected to their communities.

As part of the package, people over 65 will be assisted to undertake more physical activity.

Locally based sporting organisations will receive grants totalling $22.9 million to deliver new programs for older Australians.

Would you be keen to get involved in the More Choices package? Are you already an active older Australian?

With 82.5 million being allocated to mental health I can see why feminist groups are getting more involved in mental health. I'm sure they will use a lot of these funds for their political agenda. Beyond blue is less supportive of men since Julia Gillard took over.
Also lifeline is going the same way. Recently they arranged for Clemintine Ford to give a speech at a life line event, a well known feminist known for # kill all men and comments like "If they don’t want to pay child support but they need to kill someone, kill themselves.”
And other hate speech which I think is inappropriate for a lifeline sponsored event, but that is the way things are going.i will be keen to see how the governments mental money is being spent.

By the way if there is anyone as disgusted by lifeline's behaviour as I am there is a petition to sign.

So my question as it relates to the budget is , are these funds being used to legitimately support mental health or will they used by beyondblue and lifeline to support feminist political agendas rather than doing anything to help with the ever increasing male suicides.

Tib, men over 85 years are the most likely to suicide. This is a dreadful statistic but it has nothing to do with feminism or Julia Gillard! Men kill them selves for {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252

\cf2 \strokec2 } reasons - they are lonely, live alone and can’t cope well, don’t know where to go for help or find it hard to find friends. All these factors can be remedied (and so they should). Blaming women for men’s suicides stops us all from working together to support men build their mental health resources and from creating ways to help men and women remain relatively happy. By the way Julia Gillard has nothing to do with policy - she isn’t a clinician. Blame someone but not Beyond Blue.

Sorry - not sure why it turned to gobble gook, perhaps it’s because some people are so unhappy.

Wake up to yourself, I'm not talking about feminism causing suicide I'm talking about groups like lifeline spending money supporting women like Clementine Ford who not only don't support men who are at risk of suicide but encourage them to do so. Try reading the link I provided and try to use a little common sense. If at all possible.

By the way if you support the views of Clementine Ford and you support Lifeline allowing her to be the keynote speaker. Then you really are a sick individual. Im sorry but if you hate men that much there is no hope for you.

Oh boy Tib, obviously there's a good deal more undercurrent to the macabre 'handsome young man' icon depicted as representing you.

    Life sometimes sits heavy on our shoulders and your post brought to mind this excerpt;

"In his inimitable way, Shakespeare encapsulated the essentials of psychotherapy, when Macbeth, concerned at the deteriorating mental health of his wife, beseeched the attending physician:
Can'st thou not minister to a mind diseased,
Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,
Raze out the written troubles of the brain,
and with some sweet oblivious antidote
cleanse the stuffed bosom of that perilous stuff
which weighs heavily upon the heart ?
Wherupon the physician replied with great wisdom
Therein the patient must minister to himself.

Neither a take down nor send up. I trust you make of that what you will.

Firstly; methinks more to this issue than meets the eye.

Secondly; am not, have not , never ever likely to be taken in by 'shock jock' journalists or their dreary rants. (I'm suggesting your subject journo 'fills the bill').

    Your last comment is baseless.

Educate yourself and read some of the comments provided by Clementine Ford. If you think her comments are reasonable there is something wrong with you. If you think she should be at a lifeline event again there is something wrong with you. This is not " shock Jock " journalism this woman is giving a speech. That is a fact. You want to a agree with this woman, I'm disgusted with you.

Just remember men might be responsible for their own suicide but as a community we provide money so these men can get the help they so badly need. Not so that money can be spent on women like Clementine Ford so they can spew hatred at them and encourage them to suicide. It's obvious that the community doesn't care about mens issues or men generally but this is going too far.

I have good reason to be sensitive on this issue. It's a shame more of the community didn't have some compassion for these guys. It never ceases to amaze me how cold and heartless women really are.

By the way Puglet, MD the petition for the removal of Clementine Ford at the Lifeline event has reached 13000 decent people who recognise the significance of allowing a feminist man hater such as her to give a speech is offensive. To allow someone who encourages male suicide at a lifeline event is not acceptable especially considering the high rate of male suicide. Though it is apparent by your comments you support her and her hatred. One day one of the men you care about will suicide and we will see if you still support lifeline supporting her, maybe you will.

Freedom of Speech may set some precedent.

So if a male was to give speeches encouraging women to kill themselves and was to start # kill all women you would be OK with that. Especially at a lifeline event. If so you would also encourage Hitlers final solution. Free speech right.

The reason I'm so angry about this issue is that someone like Clemenine Ford will be seriously damaging to all those men at risk if she is allowed to make a speech for lifeline. If lifeline doesn't support them, who then, not you.

I am confused about these allocations, good for mental health but not sure about the one for sporting.
Why do we need Government spending to get us more active? I just bought a bike which I saved up for and doing sport for free. Had a lovely ride on a bush track today.
