But amidst the excitement of exploring new places, there’s often a familiar companion following me wherever I go: the nagging feeling that I’ve forgotten something important at home.

It’s a sensation many travellers can relate to – the sudden pang of anxiety that creeps in just as you’re settling into your holiday bliss. Did I turn off the stove? Did I lock the front door? Did I pay the bills? These thoughts can quickly overshadow the joy of being in a new environment, casting a shadow of worry over what should be a carefree escape.

To truly savour your holiday, it’s essential to detach from these worries. Here are four effective ways to relieve that nagging feeling and ensure a worry-free holiday.

Create a comprehensive pre-travel checklist

The first step to a worry-free holiday is planning. Develop a detailed pretravel checklist that covers everything from packing essentials to securing your home. Include items you need to pack such as travel documents, chargers, medications, and any special items needed for your destination. 

Add a section for home tasks that need to be completed before you set off. This could include everything from turning off appliances to notifying neighbours and securing windows and doors. 

When you have a comprehensive list, you can systematically check off each item, leaving little room for doubt. This proactive approach not only ensures you have everything you need but also provides peace of mind as you head out the door.

If you take the completed list away with you, you can double-check it to make sure everything is safe and secure at home.

Use technology to stay connected

In the digital age, technology can be a valuable ally in easing your worries. Take advantage of smart home devices and apps to monitor and control aspects of your home remotely. Set up security cameras, smart locks, and thermostat controls to manage your home environment with a few taps on your smartphone. Snap some photos just before you leave home
