Hiking the Italian Riviera

Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages set along the rugged Italian Riviera coastline and linked by hiking paths.

Cinque Terre boasts not only breathtaking views, but also amazing food produced by local farmers. Ligurian cuisine is tied to the history of the coastal life. Think seafood-laden dishes featuring anchovies, bream, bass, cuttlefish, octopus and calamari.

The dishes are healthy and simple, set off by aromatic herbs, which grow wild in the region, and dressed with local olive oil, considered some of the best of Italy.

Colourful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbours are filled with fishing boats, and trattorias turn out seafood specialties.

Italy experts Tourissimo are now offer hiking tours through these historic, vibrant villages.

You can spend days traipsing above pristine waters, wandering down cobblestone alleyways, sampling local specialties such as fresh seafood and pesto, and drinking Italian wine, on an all-inclusive, seven-day tour for $3995 per person.

“Despite its popularity, Cinque Terre has managed to maintain its authenticity,” said Tourissimo co-founder Beppe Salerno.

“Don’t expect large crowds and souvenir shops, as we will take you behind the scenes and off the beaten path.”

Tour highlights:

  • hiking Portofino Natural Park
  • touring the Abbey of San Fruttuoso
  • lunch in Vernazza (fresh olive oil, pesto and more)
  • taking a private boat ride with snorkelling stops
  • participating in a pesto-making class
  • climbing a stairway of 2000 steps to Campiglia Tramonti.

Departure dates are scheduled for 16 May 2020 and 26 September 2020. For more info, visit www.tourissimo.travel
