The marketing team behind Virgin Voyages’ entry to the cruise world could well be described as geniuses. Or is that genii? Depends on who you ask.
One thing’s for sure. Virgin’s first ‘Lady Ship’ is shaping up to be a real stunner. We’ve seen glimpses of what’s beneath her shiny surface and artists’ impressions and designers’ plans of rooms, lounges, decks and bars – albeit only digitally, so far.
And now Richard Branson’s first lady has a name – and it’s a beauty.
You may recognise the visage of the Virgin vixen. That’s because she’s already graced the fuselages of Virgin Atlantic and Australia aircrafts, as well as the Virgin Galactic spaceline.
This time, the sultry siren representing the soul and spirit behind Virgin Voyages’ vessel appears as a fetching mermaid on a ship named, wait for it …
“Scarlet is the embodiment of everything this ship represents. As our figurehead, she takes on a role historically dedicated to goddesses, important women in society, and even mermaid figures,” said Virgin Voyages in a statement.
“Though beautiful and mysterious in vision, she represents a woman of power – the leader not only on our first voyage, but also in our efforts to encourage front-facing female leaders throughout our company with our Virgin Voyages Scarlet Squad Program.
“From engineers to builders, marine tech to crew captains and technical positions, this program is meant to help female leaders break through the glass ocean if you will; it’s meant to create more leadership positions for women on the operations side of the sea travel industry. This multi-pronged approach, supported by skill development, recruitment and mentoring, is something we find incredibly important in areas traditionally lacking female leadership, like marine technical and hotel management.”
Virgin’s lovely lady is coming together, and we can’t wait to see her in her final form.
