'Random facts about anything and nothing in particular'.

Occasionally whilst wandering through cyberspace I come across random and fairly obscure  facts about anything and nothing in particular i.e. people, health,  historical events,  experiences, animals, celebrities, food, plants etc.  which at times I find fairly interesting.  A few are listed below:

1.  It is estimated that by the time convict transportation to Australia ended in 1868, 40% of Australia's english speaking population were of convict descent.

2.  Apparently Leonardo Da Vinci was the first to explain why the sky is blue.

3.  John F. Kennedy was buried without his brain after it was lost during the autopsy.

4.  Don't stick your tongue out if you want to hide your identity.  Similar to fingerprints, everyone has a unique tongue print.

5.  Judy Garland was 16 when she was cast as Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz' and had to bind her breasts and wear a corset to hide her developing curves to make her appear younger. (More info:  'Dark Side of Oz:  The Exploitation of Judy Garland)

6. in 1832, 300 female convicts at the Cascade Female Factory mooned the Governor of Tasmania during a chapel service.  It was said that in a 'rare moment of collusion' with the convict women the ladies in the Governor's party could not control their laughter.

7.  The first photos from the 1969 Moon Landing were beamed to the rest of the world from Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station, near Canberra.

8.  Rats and horses can't vomit apparently.

9.  Marlon Brando was born on the 3rd  April, 1924.

Anyway please feel free to add your own' random facts about anything and nothing in particular' or comment/discuss the abovementioned if that is your want....

Abby,

Yeah every alternate Sunday is more than enough. :-)

My FIL, long gone and well into his nineties, never brushed his teeth but flossed them instead. He had good teeth and had never visited a dentist in his lifetime.

Bit of a bushy and toothbrushes were not readily available way back. Used a bit of twine or cord back then he told me.

SD

Amazing. But maybe he didn‘t eat junk food? People in India have great teeth, they use a certain time of twig, but villagers don‘t have access to junk food. Obesity and bad teeth are diseases of the first world.

Who was citizen number one of Australia?

Ben Chifley in 1949

Possible breach of international laws now as the lying polies pay to turn the boats around.

How right you are Davey, if it is true they were putting defenceless humans lives at risk, they should be hung out, upside down. How mean can the libs sink.

I hope that there will be a whistle blower and the government goes to the world courts.

I don't see the problem .. However it was achieved the boats have been stopped and lives have been saved . Let's not forget that 1,100 drowned under Labor .. 1000s in detention camps and 30,000 released into the community but not allowed to work ,

I was utterly appalled today when I heard on the BBC News - that 59.5 MILLION people in the world - right this minute!! -  are displaced - starving and homeless because of wars - poverty and religion!  DISGUSTING !!!!!!!....also - "they" said that every year - every year -  another 20,000 are ...... added on......this has all happened since 1998 apparently according to the BBC report .....................

Sorry Geo. - you told me a couple of months ago the "world had not changed" ????  Any opinions now???  :-)

P.S.  These a REAL facts - not random!

$52 MILLION - "scammed" from unsuspecting Aussies over the last financial year!

Oooops - big apologies!  Went back to read allll the details again and it was :-

$82 MILLION   .........................  sorry   :-(     (even worse!)

Goes to show Foxy, we have a lot of dumb, or greedy people living in Oz.

........   "dumb n dumber" ???? lol lol lol

Did you know that around 60% of the total millionaires in the world originate from the US, Japan, Germany and China, with Australia being the ninth highest number of millionaires in the world with a total of 219,000?

I thought our group was larger, when we meet, we seems to be so many...

According to a report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Australia has more millionaires than ever.

Aussie private wealth is growing faster than the world average. Private wealth here grew by 16% last year, reaching $3.52 trillion. Average global growth was only 12%.

Total private wealth has grown by a whopping $1.4 billion per day over the past two years.

But it’s not for the reasons you might think. There hasn’t been a sudden boom in property moguls, although property prices are part of the deal. Australia isn’t riding the last wave of the mining boom anymore. And, contrary to what the Abbott administration wants, small businesses aren’t booming.

It’s all down to superannuation.

BCG boss Andrew Dyer thinks Australia has an emerging ‘millionaire middle class’. He says ‘What we are starting to see in Australia is the legacy of people being forced to save money for their retirement through superannuation for nearly 25 years and the impact of compound interest over that time. Our super system is working well at safeguarding some of people’s wealth for retirement, but there is definitely scope for the system to be further strengthened.’

And he might be right. According to stats from the Association of Super Funds of Australia (ASFA), super assets totalled $2.05 trillion at the end of the quarter in March this year. That’s most of the $3.52 trillion that BCG claims. And the total value of assets in MySuper (compulsory super) products is up 23.1% from the same time last year.

Posta pete posting again....try to think man

Good for you , whatever your name is ...
