Hello Radish

good news indeed

only think to watch for is the dreaded C

speaking of with I have a colonoscopy scheduled for a month from now

I think might be a bit of Government propaganda re folks working until 70 before eligible for a pension maybe :)

No it's totally true ... Our healthy lives are extending three months a year ..When we get to Twelve everlarlasting life ..

yes, i have those on a regular basis.  everyone over 50 should have them....easy to get rid of with early detection.

Yes Radi every five years from 50 .,,

as women we have to have mammograms and pap smears,   so its only fair you blokes suffer a little bit,     not to much,   but a tad, lol,

Not just blokes .  Everybody should have  a colonoscopy every five years .. Cats me old mate ..

i didnt know women needed them PETE,    no doctor has ever suggested i should have one,

Hello Cats

its true everyone should have it every few years

its not for prostrate cancer. It's actually to detect bowel cancer

My proctologist happens to be a fantastic gay doctor. I have no problems with it.

He tells me he is very knowledgeable and many years experience .

so I trust him implicitly

wow Cats...with respect...I find it unbelievable that you thought that.  Bowel cancer, if caught early enough, can be cured.  I had a close friend die a few years ago.  Had never had a check and by the time she found out she had it, was too late.   It affects everyone...not just males.

Next time you see your doctor ask to have a colonoscopy done.  This test is done in hospital...you are under sedation when it is done.

In addition there are bowel testing kits available from the chemist and I know that they are available from an other organisation whose name escapes me at the moment.  These are an indicator something may be wrong and if anything is found you will be referred for a colonoscopy.

Thankfully, the government is now going to send out bowel testing kits to people up to 74 now.

Yes I had my last one two years ago they always find and remove polps and analyse..they said five years as this is how long it takes polyps to form .

Cats you should be able to get it for free at the public hospital . There might be a waiting list .. But if your doctor says urgent you should get in within weeks .

Its a day clinic thing..,

i go to a clinic in Bondi which charges 90  dollars .. I just make a convient appointment and go..

RADISH,   I NEVER SAID THAT BOWEL CANCER COULD BE CURED,   HAVE NEVER MENTIONED IT,      i honestly didnt know women had that test,     i mam aware of bowel screening,   my friend did one at home and sent it away,  but didnt realise it was a big thing with women,   just men,    my doctor has never mentioned it,  and its a wonder , if its done so freely,  as he tests one for everything,     apart from that one friend, who had a kit sent by the goverment,  i know of NO WOMAN,  who has had it done,  will check it out,

Listen young lady , don't muck around with the tests , get in to your Doc and have a colonoscopy . Women have the same gut as men .

Unfotunaly modern diets with processed foods and too much sugar and too little fibre is causing a rise in bowel cancers .

During the colonoscopy they will remove polyps which are a precursor to Cancer.

DO IT TODAY CATS ...

We are suppossed to live to 150, Joe will want us to work till 149 & 1/2

Hi Plan B

It was Julia that raised it from 65 to 67 Joe hasn' t raised it at all  yet .

The reality is when the pension was introduced at 65 the average life span was 59 .Now it is approx 87  and continues to grow at three montths a year.

working life is approx 50years retirement 2O years . I haven't done the maths but when we live to a hundred and fifty . We will be retiring at a hundred ..

I have no idea as to how an older person that does manual work could work till that age -- plus there is NO way you have the energy that you once had once you are in your 70s -- it is hard enough to keep your own home in shape

Noone has ever lived to 150 and we will not see it happen in our life times.

The increase  in life spans is currently three months a year, and growing.

the fastest growing segment of the population is the 90s .

There are already available life styles to extend healthy age spans.

Silicon Valley is investing billions into research of life extension ...

I know I am a lot healthier than my mother was at the same age.  I fully understand that things have to change.  As you said Pete when the pension was introduced the life span was a lot lower. Hubby left the work force through redundancy at 56...he could have worked for another 20 years no problem.  On reflection he says there was no reason at all that he could not have done so healthwise, but he chose not to do so at the time but I think it would have been good for him to have done so from a social point of view.

Of course Radish, there is NO way I would want to work till I drop, I enjoy retirement there is more to life than work till you drop, unless one chooses to work then they should be allowed to,  me I worked to live not lived to work

Quote PlanB "me I worked to live not lived to work"

That is one of the best statements I have heard, and so true. There is much more to life than more dollars.

Yes I agree with those sentiments which is very nice but ...

They don't live for work ... they work to live

Teenagers and young adults - the so-called Generation Y - have watched with horror as their parents worked punishing hours in their scramble for money and status. Now, as this group go in search of jobs, they have different priorities. They care less about salaries, and more about flexible working, time to travel and a better work-life balance.

The Guardian

This is the reason why the Government is asking the Seniors of today to do some heavy lifting ... the seniors of the past left school many at the age of 14 went to work ... the Gen y ..by the time they finish all their education and travels in between you are looking at 24 and you can bet they will want to retire at 55 or sooner

So the principle of Benjamin Franklin

"if you want something done, ask a busy person" applies

Yes by the time these kids now get to START work they are almost old enough  to retire, school till some silly age even though they are not GENIUS material --then they have to go to Uni  what for I do not know unless they are bright and whant to become a Dr or such --what the hell is wrong with leaving school at 15 and getting a darn job and then going to tech if you want a trade FGS  --plus so many WANT a 12 month BREAK  --of course expect Mum & DAd to pay for that

Beyond me as to why the Seniors of today should have to ensure there are pensions for those coming on .... surely it should be up to them to provide for themselves as to how they want to live in their old age.

Abby, agree....that is why compulsory superannuation was set up in the early 90's so that people, in future, will be able to look after themselves and not be reliant on the pension.

Confucius say - Choose a job you love and you never have to work a day in your life.

Idle hands bring forth idle mind, idle mind produces idle mouth - many idle hands make very idle nation. Idle nation cost government much money. Confucius say man should not retire from honest work. Save government lots of money. Work work work.

peTE,   RADISH,   DENZEL,   thanks for your advice,   i see my doc again next week,  so will ask him,  if he thinks its neccesary,  then ill have it done,    but just saying,  neither this doc or the one before that,  that i saw regularly for 20 years, have mentioned it, and i dont know of anyone who has had it,  [woman wise,  that isonly know of one woman who had it,  but she had a history of cancer in the famlly,   and did havea double mastectomy,     i will follow it up,   thanks for the advice,
