It is a catch 22, saving battery life for something for which a small fortune was paid, all the bells and whistles need to be readily available for almost every user such as WiFi and if turned off then incoming/outgoing data incurs costs.

The misnomer of 'battery saving' is akin to 'fuel saving' with a vehicle, reduce the use of it.

Battery saving solution :------ From eBay, (surely everyone uses free PayPal to securely pay) buy for $5.00 each, one, two or more small rechargeable battery holders for smart phones. Some hold two batteries, some three as mine are. they are supplied with a connection lead for each particular 'phone, not much bigger than a match-box and easy to carry, and at any convenient time put some charge in the 'phone.

Use re-chargeable batteries and recharge them when at home.

I use 2600mAh Portable External Battery Charger Power Bank which recharges Mobile iPhone, Samsung and other micro USB-enabled smartphones, cameras, and other mainstream devices when they run short ..... costs about $8 on eBay.
