What do you think of Golden Gaytime ice-cream in a tub?
You might already have heard but if not, due to a Facebook campaign called the Golden Gaytime Ice Cream Tub Project by Jesse James McElroy, a Sydney advertising executive, Streets has started selling the beloved Golden Gaytime ice cream in 1.5L tubs.
Golden Gaytimes has been one of Australia's most popular ice creams since it's introduction in 1959, and public opinion is divided over whether this is a good or bad idea. So I've put together a pro/con list.
Pro:
- More convenient. If you're a big lover of the Golden Gaytime, you won't have to nip into the nearest servo for your fix – the tub will be right there in your freezer.
- It's cheaper. A Golden gaytime from 7/11 costs about $3.70 but a 1.5L tub from the supermarket will cost around $6.99. That's a saving of approximately $1.44 per 100ml.
- Sharing is caring. You won't have to worry about that family member who insists on taking the last delicious bite of your ice-cream. You can direct them to the tub themselves.
Con:
- Will the tub version be as good as the original? As Jesse James McElroy said, Streets would “need to make sure the biscuits hold up using ... science or magic”.
- It's just not the same. There's just something about eating an ice cream from stick that you can't beat, isn't there?
What's your take on the Golden Gaytime news? Have you any pros or cons to add to the list. If you're one of the first to have bought the tub, we'd love to hear your thoughts.
Too old fashioned .. I prefer Aldi Cookis and cream or peanut butter ..
