GW Bush was a guffaw who played a 'game' with no care of the concequences, nor any compassion.

When George W Bush starts to look compassionate and intelligent when compared to ABBOTT, you know things are really, really bad for Australia.

This excerpt, from the above link, says it all "I remind the public that in 1954 the young Queen Elizabeth on her first trip to Australia as Queen personally signed a law in Canberra that permitted the ethnic cleansing of the Australian Capital Territory, clearing it of resident Aboriginal Peoples. When she was on Australian soil she was the Queen of Australia exercising all authority and power that she had as Queen of Australia"

It is time to clean up our act and do something positive for Aboriginal Australia.  There are many, many ways this can be done.... maybe if we saved $85 million from a union witch hunt and put a small proportion of it towards a natioanal congress AND would have powers to present their recommendations directly to the parliament as a bill.  Obviously, Aboriginal people would be major contributors but also many others with particular skills and accreditations.  A draft for the FUTURE that would raise the standard of living, education and open up, not only hope but a position for Aborigines to be included in their own country!

It is TIME!

My oath Muss, it sure is well after TIME

PlanB

Very sad indeed that no commenters are interested in Aboriginal people and the disgusting racism and exclusion from our society, that they have had to put up with.

Yes Muss my thoughts also --about time we woke up to ourselves,  I never knew about the Queen signing that, it sure has made me even more want to go republic!

Also the way Abbott has been treating the Aboriginals is SO insincere, all he wants is a few photo shoots,  -- as usual.

The Queen has done lots of horrid things actually....

One of them was - the Chagos Islands, whereby the indigenous population was secretly and brutally expelled by British Governments in the late 1960s and early 1970s to make way for an American military base. The tragedy, which falls within the remit of the International Criminal Court as "a crime against humanity", is told by Islanders who were dumped in the slums of Mauritius and by British officials who left behind a damning trail of Foreign Office documents - our lovely Queen could have stopped that BUT signed OFF on it!

No, I am not a fan of any form of Royalty.  The only one that I even come close to considering, is Prince Charles, who is constantly ridiculed by the Murdoch press (etc).... this was and still is because he occasionally stood up for injustices to 'his' people.  You will find that because he gets Murdoch and other BAD press coverage (bit like what they did to Rudd - if you can't find anything at all derogatory to put on the front page about him, then make things up and put derogatory front page news about Rudd with a fly in his hair) - the masses, then stop thinking and participate in donkey braying, just as Murdoch and the other media barons expect.

On Topic again..... it is NOT insurmountable to open up Australian contemporary society enough to allow Aboriginal people to enter and participate.

The two differences between the two societies... western & Aboriginal.... is that one was based on the INDIVIDUAL and the other was based on EQUALITY and INCLUSION of ALL.  It was probably closer to TRUE communism than any other during our time.  Nobody OWNED anything, as it belong to everyone.

Hence, the HUGE amount of difficulty of the western society to break and destroy the Aboriginal people and conversely, a big reason why Aboriginal people/communities, resisted western interference.  Just some musings.... full of flaws but definitely PART of some of the problems.

Here is a link to a John Pilger article on the Chagos Islands, he's bloody good isn't Pilger.

Chagos Islands

I am picking up today the  “War on Democracy”

I did a post and it disappeared !

Thank you Muss for that site,  Yes Piliger is GREAT and stands up for the down trodden --

I also have never been a Royalist –I never have been into all the pomp and ceremony,  I also like you,  thought Chuck was the more relaxed of the lot of them.

What worries me with a Republic is HOW AND WHO would they choose – would it be a War monger / a footballer / a "celeb" / or just a job for the  “boys”

You know how I feel about the wrongs done to the Aboriginal people and the injustices of having them removed from their land, said it many a time, no more really to say Plan B, just add my name to anything that promotes their plight.

As for a Republic, good way to go, but MPs should not be the ones to choose a "leader"

that should be put to the vote, maybe a list of worthy people, don't really know.

Yes Ray I feel the same about the Aboriginals.

AS I have indicated I do wonder how a "President "  would be picked, God forbid if it was ever up to the likes of Abbott and the like

Me, I am very cynical and simply don't trust Hockey or the rest of his cabinet members.

Firstly, is this republic thing with Hockey merely to deflect us away from Abbott's incompetence or is he spatting with Abbott and using it to annoy him.... either way it does not fee real.

Secondly, I really, really, really seriously do NOT trust this govt in any form whatsoever and therefore do NOT want the republican issue raised or drafted whilst they are any where near or around the issue.  They will simply use it to make changes that will simply reflect the USA style of governance with little or no protection of the people by a well drafted constitution that the USA has.  In other words they will use it AGAINST the people and to ensure that THEY can hold on to power and do whatever they want.

Look at what happened with Environmental legislation.... the Minister did NOT do his JOB properly and recommended to the Judge, that the COURTS do not rule on the issue (Anani agreed) and that the issue be taken back to the Minister for proper consideration.

What Abbott told Australians was that environmentalists and traditional owners used and abused the system and that the judge was FORCED to make a judgement against the Anani mine.  A total untruth..... again!  On this LIE and the fact that the judge made no such judgement, as the parties agreed to remove it from the courts..... Abbott now wants to change the 'weak' legislation that is in place, to ensure that his own Ministers incompetence doesn't even matter and that environmentalists and traditional owners have NO SAY in whether we give away our heritage and sovereignty and resources to a FOREIGN mining giant or not!!!!

Back to the Republic..... NO WAY should we have anything with the term 'PRESIDENT' in it...... we really, really do NOT want a system that is anywhere near similar to the USA, whereby the President has more and more independent powers, taking decisions that remove the very concept of 'people' democracy.

One: -  we need to make our titles solely Australian and maybe we could find an Aboriginal name that could be used; and

Two: -  we need to ensure that the position is merely to oversee and ensure that correct DEMOCRATIC procedures are adhered to in and out of parliament; corporations are not allowed to interfere in our parliamentary and democratic processes; and corporate media (all media) act without political bias and report factually all information, rather than feeding us what they want us to hear only.

Three: - give this position the power and money (% of Federal Income) to FULLY undertake these essential requirements to ensure our Republican democracy is paramount and powerful.

Can you see any of these things happening when Abbott is in power??

No Muss I can not see these things happening when Abbott is in power.

I also do not want a system anything like the American system, even more so after watching  "The war on Democracy"   last night,  that just showed how evil they are,  I knew they were but that showed it even more.

I was also wondering about Hockey and the mention of him by Peter Fitzsimons as it seemed to me to be a strange time for it to be mentioned ?
