Election Imminent
With the possibility of a Double Dissolution Election looming, this could be good time for each and every voter to carefully consider exactly which direction he or she wants Australia to proceed in.
Whether you are a "believer" in favour of this Federal Government`s ETS and the direction in which it is taking us all, or whether you are a Global Warming sceptic, will be only one of a myriad of concerns that are inevitably going to affect us all.
With this questionable ETS Bill being blocked in Parliament and rejected by the Senate, it indicates the power that a few Independentscan wield and the exercise of individual voting rights on the part of some Party members can bring to apply to prevent and block "unsavoury" legislation.
At this time it would appear to be a glimmer of reason to postpone the passing of this Bill until after the Copenhagen meeting, allowing more investigation into a situation that could, if passed into legislation effectively plunge this country into absolute financial chaos.
There are various schools of thought being applied to the cause of Global Warming, but the main view posed by the Labor Government is that it is" man-made via excessive carbon emissions" a view that is supported by approximately half of the world`s notable scientists,.... the alternate opinion emanating from opposing groups and supported by the other half of the world`s scientific experts, is that Global Warming is a result of increasing Sun-spot activity and is warming all of the other planets in the Solar System,( and has happened may times before throughout the history of this planet!)
The final outcome of any Bill addressing Global Warming will be decided inevitably by whichever Government is in power at the time, and providing the Bill in whatever form receives a majority vote by members of both Houses.
The obvious answer is for us to elect MORE Independent members to both Houses to allow the application of the "conscience vote!"
While I cant summon much enthusiasm for either of our main political parties, I cant see that electing a bunch of new "independents" will solve anything. At least the major parties have SOME infrastructure and resources to investigate issues and obtain specialist advice in framing legislation etc (not that we actually see much evidence of that).
In my opinion, electing independents will only see a further degradation of the system with so many diverse and possibly conflicting policies, opinions, agenda's etc and even less would be accomplished. It would be far better to see a new party emerge, dedicated to honesty and integrity in government with a policy of transparency in its dealings and governing "for the people" rather than just cynical political expedience.
The days of careful and considered legislative change after due research, party consideration and consultation with "stakeholders" are long gone - they now legislate by trial and error. They eventually amend legislation to fix inequities, loopholes and injustices, but only after long delays, public outcry and well after many lives/enterprises have been ruined. How much more of this can we, as a nation, take?
