The ferry ride from hell

A ferry full of passengers were making the normally peaceful ride from Manly to Circular Quay on last Sunday. It was all going well until their peace and quiet cut was short by a 13-year-old girl who started to blow a vuvuzela (a colourful horn device, best known for ruining the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa) inside the cabin.

Passengers put up with the noise for some time before a lady asked the girl to stop playing the horn. The girl was travelling with her Aunt who did nothing to stop the behaviour. The girl proceeded to blow the horn louder and directly in the face of the protesting passenger.

It was at this point a saviour appeared in the protesting ladies husband. He grabbed the vuvuzela out of the young girls hands, walked outside of the cabin and threw it overboard, where it now rests at the bottom of the Sydney Harbour.

It didn't stop there though. The Aunt complained to Ferry staff who arranged police to meet them at the dock. After speaking to a number of witnesses who insisted that it was only a matter of time before someone else had done the same and that he did the other passengers a massive favour, the police decided to take no action.

Good on him I say. What would you have done in the same situation?

Anyone who has a child learning a Trumpet and other type of wind instrument would know that if they had shoved a wad of paper or even a sock down the bell of the instrument it would soften the sound, this is called a mute, lots of musicians do this when practising in their homes. Drummers also put padding on the skins to soften the sound.

So that is where the saying "Put a sock in it" comes from, thanks will suggest that next time I have one grandchild irritating the others with Saxophone practice.
