Thanks Clay - we all knew it, but nobody was game to say it - why - because we are in a society where political correctness has gone mad. We are so busy bending over backwards in order not to offend people, that we are putting lives at risk.

Tragic as this incident is, we need to maintain some perspective here. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and sure, the reports were confused at first as investigation HAD TO BE DONE. There is no cover-up that I can see, just caution that the real facts were made known WHEN THEY HAD BEEN CHECKED AND VERIFIED. How often in the past have "journalists" blurted out the "obvious" only to find that there were much different circumstances than was originally believed.

There are unfortunately "crazies" in all levels of our society and naturally, some are Muslims. Not all terrorists are Muslims and not all Muslims are terrorists.

This guy had registered on the "radar" in the U.S. and was being watched, but in modern society, the individual has rights and evidence has to be gathered to build a case before any action can be taken. What should the authorities have done? demoted him or expelled him from the army because of his religeous beliefs?...... locked him up for "public safety? If governments act like this, they become no better than the terrorists they fight.

The British had the same problem with the bombings in London...... they were British born citizens who had been noticed by authorities, but who could know that they were about to embark on a bombing spree?

We can never win this type of war as we cannot penalise people just because they are Muslim and we can never know when the next "crazy" is going to go on another murderous rampage.

...

Do we then just lay down and be raped ...........is this your recomendation for the future and given the Majors motives for what he has done should we discharge all soldiers who are of the same faith ...........

Reading some comments on another forum, I nearly fell off my chair to see some one write along the lines of....as the man is a physchiatrist, it may have got too much for him amongst the serving soldiers.....!!!!!!!!

So the murderer couldn't stand listening to the soldiers on the front line anymore, and sets out to kill as many as he can!!!!???

Pommy, you're so right re political correctness.

I have often said on this and other forums, that insidious Marxist political correctness is the biggest danger to democracy that we face to-day.

Many people simply don't realise that they've been brainwashed in true Marxist tradition.

This man is a terrorist due to his actions. It does not take a great and long lived investigation to know that when a person picks up his gun and shoots randomly into a crowd, that he is a terrorist. Is he connected to others as part of a group of terrorists are is not required do call this person a terrorist. As they build up on his past there are plenty of evidences that he is sympathetic to the radical Islamic ways and goals. He is supported by those folks in the middle east and is called a hero by them. Still, his act alone is sufficient to call him a terrorist. It is not necessary to be part of a gang or group to be a terrorist. Have I said that in enough ways yet?

What is really disturbing to me is the fact that the less radicals of the Islamic religion do not stand up and protest the radical Islamics actions. The lack of response from the quieter Islamics makes me wonder why they are so quiet. Are they afraid the radicals will come by and hurt them or kill them. Are they afraid to condemn any Islamics that stray from the religious teachings? From what I know of the Koran there are no teaching there that require killing of the infidels or require honor killings of family members? So why do they do this? My understanding is that there is a second book called the "Hadith' that has many interpretations of the verses in the Koran. It is here that so many things are spoken of that causes so much problems in the radical groups of the Islamics.

But I still would like to know why the more temperate of the Muslims do not stand up and reject all the radical elements vocally, in the press, over the air and TV, make a big noise about their disapproval. If they do not make it clear to the radicals it makes it darn certain that we have only one way to continue to handle the Muslims in our countries. That is to increase our suspicions of all and to start restrictions on their freedoms. We can not just hang around and let them destroy our societies. If they like what we provide in our democracies they must also help to protect the democracies from the radical Islamics.

.

There is no denying the seriousness of international terrorism but it must also be acknowledged that it is an exceedingly complex and tangled problem. The terrorists are shunned by the moderate Muslims but their condemnations are not well reported. Also, many of the Mullahs are sympathetic to the radical cause. So, you get diverging opinions from different groups and the radicals ENCOURAGE the world to oppress mainstream Muslims as they feel that this will drive them toward radical ideals.

This soldier at Ft Hood was a psychiatrist who listened to the most intimate and distressing details from troops whom he perceived as killing HIS PEOPLE...... perhaps the guy just flipped out and might have been technically insane when he went on his rampage? I honestly dont know, but I do know the dangers of jumping to conclusions, making assumptions and condemning the many for the sins of the few. At present, we are at war with the radical minority of the Islam religeon, we dont improve our chances of victory by alienating their moderate brethren. Are we to return to the good old days of the "witch hunt".....remember when there was a communist behind every bush?, or the dreaded "yellow peril" or when we routinely villified immigrants or our own aborigines?

We obviously need to do SOMETHING, but it needs to involve embracing the Muslims who are not at war with us. It means making them welcome but within OUR OWN CULTURE. We cant afford to allow immigrants to change Australia to suit themselves. Everyone is free to celebrate their culture and origins and practice their religeon, but they may not demand freedoms and concessions that were not available to them in their own country. THEY must become Australian, we MUST NOT become Muslim.

Did you miss my point. It is up to the conservative Islamics to stand up for their beliefs. They should not hide behind some fearful thoughts and come out with the way they feel. It is up to them to make the rest of us feel better about their being in our midst. They are well accepted in the US and hopefully they stay that way. But it is up to them to cry out their distress with the way the radicals are behaving. World wide for that matter. If they do not soon wake up the tide will likely turn against them. Especially if more terrorist attacks as last week at Fort Hood occur.

Yes, I remember well the days of suspecting the communist activist in the US. Today it seems like we should have kept a better watch of those folks. We have inside our government today a bad combination of socialist and communist that are trying to change our government into a socialist style government. They are ignoring our Constitution and the limitations of activities, They are taking over businesses and banks and telling businesses how much profits they can make. They spend money as fast as they can print it. The US will soon be bankrupt due to these power crazed folks now in charge. We should have kept a better eye on them and stopped them from getting elected.

I have little sympathy with the PC activities that are just taking us into a worse mess than we already have. He is already charged with being a terrorist and the Army will likely put him on trial as soon as he is physically fit. His act was enough on its own. He doesn't need to be directly attached to the Al Queda group. Though he likely is fully supportive of the Al Queda thinking.

.

I have been reading all of this with great interest, particularly Clay, bobagain & kfchugo. I know I will be accused of dragging my knuckles etc etc, but I must ask. You don't pour water into sulfuric acid!! You cannot import pitt bulls into Australia. We are a Christian Country, so why do we allow Muslims into Australia? Someone said that not all terrorists are Muslim. I believe that now that the IRA is more or less gone, that statement is basically incorrect. Virtually al terrorists ARE Muslim. However, not all Muslims are radical. I have quite a few Muslim friends & I find them to be wonderful people, but they are not radical. Can we afford to teke the chance?

I pray that we never lose the freedom we have in Australia to express our many diverse and often conflicting opinions. Whatever you believe about Muslims or Buddhists, or Communists or skin colour etc, migration will become one of the burning issues of the decades to come. Developed countries have freedom, opportunity, wealth and quality of life and the poor and oppressed of our planet want what we have.

I have no idea how it will all pan out, but I predict that the next 50 to 100 years will see a dramatic redistribution of global wealth, drastic loss of civil liberties, governments will fall, borders will blur or disappear and life for our kids and grandkids will not be anywhere near as simple or enjoyable as it has been for us. OR, someone might engineer a good war to thin out the rabble.

Thankfully, most of us will complain right to the grave but will be mercifully spared the worst of it. I can only offer my sympathy and best wishes to our descendants.

One of the best ways to stop all the unnecessary migrations is to do like Sweden and Denmark have had to do. They were so overwhelmed in their socialist, everything for everybody, types of government that they had to change their laws. They made it so that it was much tougher to get the basics like medicine, housing, food, schooling, etc., from the government for free. People now have to be accepted, must stay for long periods of time to be eligible for hand outs. Must learn the local languages and histories before they can apply for citizen papers. This has really slowed down the immigration as the immigrants realize they can not just show up and get all the charitable things for free.

This has been one of the US's big problems. To get all this stuff for free they just have to show up. They get housing help, food, health system, education system, police protection, etc. without being required to learn the English language, working, paying taxes. No wonder they keep sneaking into the country. Every effort to stop this activity is met by resistance from the far left liberals and even the just plain liberals, that oppose putting our military on the borders. That is one of the jobs of our military, to stop invasions of the US.

Now with this 'One World' government coming out of the 'man made global warming movement' in the current Kyoto type conventions, the prediction that we may all lose our governments to some bunch of control freaks might become real. Apparently it is a kiss off to democracies and peoples choices.
