If you can't get a straight answer from Centrelink, there's little hope of us giving you an accurate one on here.  Many of us have been told not to give advice on here but to contact Centrelink. If they can't give you an answer, I don't know what you do!!

Where are you applying for the Disability Support Pension ?

Are you an Australian citizen ?

Thats the same question that came to me Abby . I would think that a trip to Australia would entail a visit to a recognised doctor to verify medical reason for DSP .

If you're applying for a dsp here in Aus. my understanding of the recent changes is that your payment stops  6 weeks after leaving the country but as others have said only c/l are able to give the details

I have applied in Australia. If I get approved for unlimited portability I will maybe go soon. However, can I come back here for a holiday? Then go back overseas for 5 years with my pension.

Just for interest let us know how you get on ted

Where are you wanting to go to ?

Is the cost of living there a lot cheaper?

I know this may sound silly but this is the way I see it.

Which country are you in now ? Do you want to come to Australia to get a pension then go to another country to live on it.

I hope I have this all wrong but you have given very limited information.

i think he means hes applying in oz for DSP and going for (UP) unlimited portability here in oz. then when hes living abroad, he decides to travel back to oz, how long can he stay before loosing his portability? i think thats what he means.

either way he wont get a straight answer about portability as they dont know the leglistlation themselves. Many people are getting varied answers for the same questions. its designed to be confusing (in my opinion), to stop people applying for UP. the other thing is they will tell you that you risk the chance of being put on newstart if you apply for UP. (as the new impairmnet tables are set so high that even genuine disabled people with serious medical problems are being refused DSP).

There are so many problems with the new leglisation that people are taking them to appeals tribunals and winning.
