Memory of long ago - scones in Sunbeam electric fry pan
G'day - we have rediscovered our electric fypan and its beaut.
Found the book as well and the scones need to be turned over.
i remember - years ago - there was a bloke on TV and it could have been IMT - he had an act where he rolled out dough like a rope - mucked around with it then pinched off bits and rolled them into balls - stuck them in the Sunbeam and produced a great batch of scones.
not sure how it was done and just hope that maybe you will remember and tell me.
have searched everywhere - TV programs were not recorded then and Sunbeam only have the book.
at the time I remember it was common talk that scon dough was handled as little as possible but he produced great scones after playing at lengyh with the dough
we just make lemonade scones now and cook them in the camp oven but now the electric fry pan would be different.
never know - someone will remember and makes their scones in their Sunbeam - please lets know how
kind regards
peter
Hello Peter,
i remember the man throwing the dough around, much to the horror of all the old girls who knew that scones need a very delicate touch... it was Joe the gadget man demonstrating Sunbeam frypans in which he made magic scones!! I too searched everywhere for the instructions and eventually discovered an old Sunbeam Frypan recipe book at an Op shop with instructions for making, not traditional scones, but Continental scones made as follows:
4 cups Self Raising Flour, 4 dessertspoons oil, 4 teaspoons sugar, one teaspoon salt and 1and 1/2 cups milk.
Mix HALF the flour with all the other ingredients and BEAT into a thick batter
add rest of flour and mix into a very stiff dough
Knead thoroughly and patt out into a layer about 3cms thick
cut into scone shapes and bake in a hot oven (200') for about 12 mins
(scones can also be cooked in a frypan or used for making dumplings for soup or stew)
