What lessons has life taught you?

 Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark:-

One: Don't miss the boat.

Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

Three: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

Four: Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you to do

something really big.

Five: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

Six: Build your future on high ground.

Seven: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

Eight: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the

cheetahs.

Nine: When you're stressed, float a while.

Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

Can you add any more valuable life lessons you've learned?

The more you learn the more you realise how much more there IS to learn

I have learned that if you go looking for trouble you will always find it,can't say the same about happiness though!

Happiness is in the mind, what you think is what you get.

looks like I win lotto tonight then! lol

Greed is not happiness,

It is if you are poor!

If you are poor, even with greed, you still have nothing.

So well said Seth but I don't agree that " you have nothing" if poor. I have been desperately poor in the past and still felt happy. I had beautiful healthy children, love with my partner, good friends, and an ability to adapt life to have lots of (cheap) fun in spite of poverty.

Robiconda..., I never meant being poor left you with nothing,{Un happy}

Just that if poor and miserable, greed gives you nothing, but the same.

Seggie.  I'll settle for good health, if not really good health, reasonable health will do.

seggie... How right you are, good health is the richest of all wealth.

running close is peace of mind in the midst of troubles.

To be content with what I've got and not buy things I don't need !

Life has taught me many lessons and I don't expect to stop learning before I die. Some important learnings:

I can only be as honest with others as I am to myself.

Trust is synonymous with expectation. If I expect someone to keep confidentiality, or fidelity, for example, and they don't, I have learned I can't trust them because they did not meet my expectation. If I didn't have that expectation it wouldn't matter.

For every strength there is an interwoven weakness and for every weakness there is an interwoven strength. For example, perfectionism imbues us with the desire to strive but it can also cripple us. Sensitivity is a beautiful human trait but over sensitivity can swallow a person into their own personal hell. We need to grab hold of the strength in our particular qualities and to deal with the inherent weaknesses in those same qualities.

i have learned to try to avoid comparing myself on any level with any other individual. Because this thinking is meaningless and harmful.

There is more but these are the big ones that I can think of at the moment.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

thank you to everyone who has contributed to this topic.

what wisdom!

i just thought of another life lesson which is very simple, and very, very difficult for me  ......... to stay in the present moment.

anyone read "the power of now" by eckhart tolle?

A thought.... In knowledge... there is much suffering.

                    In wisdom.........there is much knowledge.
