Alby on Bolt Today finally a Labor man with the guts to face him

Shame most are scared silly eh. Amazed he isnt the Leader of the Opposition actually but still a shame he is following or maybe just plain brain washed by the leftie Greens scam of AGW aka Climat Change when it got a bit embarrassing and started to cool down 17 years and 10 months plus 2 couple of weeks ago.

When will these warmists admit their scam is dead in the water ?

I guess I always like to check the credentials of these "experts" so I looked up Anthony Watts on Sourcewatch.

Using Firefox I put the link above for sourcewatch

Anyway this is from Sourcewatch:- "Willard Anthony Watts (Anthony Watts) is a blogger, weathercaster and non-scientist, paid AGW denier who runs the website wattsupwiththat.com. He does not have a university qualification and has no climate credentials other than being a radio weather announcer. His website is parodied and debunked at the website wottsupwiththat.com Watts is on the payroll of the Heartland Institute, which itself is funded by polluting industries."

On that basis I do not pay much notice of Mr Watts.

Gerry :)

Today I believe it is the coldest antarctic day this century

Just came in from outside and the Southerly breeze is blowing of f ice - my fingers are frozen to the bone.

I do not care what degrees these scientists have - it is b cold.

Well originally, it was "climate warming" but when things looked entirely different it became "climate change".

A scientist I know at university is quite scathing about the theory of human induced climate change.  He said just follow the money trail, where US universities have been given large grants to "prove" climate change is by human agency ... not a case of "whether the weather ... "

However, climate change is inevitable.  It has happened continuously throughout history ... the palaeontological records prove climate change is cyclical - admittedly over very large cycles.

However, with the demands of those promoting human agency in climate change, it has now become a religion, with unbelievers going to hell in  a handbag, and lots of witch-hunts.

Thanks for that information (ref:  This thread 4.44pm)  Gerry and agree always good to check the sources ......

Just on qualifications...Tim Flannery is no qualified climate expert either.

What amuses me is that no one will say what amount of carbon will be reduced.  They all duck out on that one.

Why are the North and South Pole and Himalayan ice melting and receding rapidlz? Why are warming seas and oceans killing off coral reefs? Why do lowlying island countries like Tuvalu and Maldives beg for help as their countries are going to go under due to rising sea levels. This year where I live there was no spring  but straight into heatwaves and bushfires. Even Aussie farmers are acknowleding climate change is real, because its impacting on them.

I totally agree "climate change is real" it has been and always will be.

Acceptance, not belief

Gerry Reed talks about ''whether you believe in carbon-induced global warming or not'' (Letters, 12/7). The findings of science of any sort is not the foundation for a set of ''believers''. One does not have a belief about the links between cigarette smoking and cancer that scientists have discovered; one either accepts the science or rejects it.

Belief is connected with faith, hope, loyalty and felt responses. I do not believe in anthropogenic global warming; rather I accept the overwhelming scientific evidence in the matter. To believe is to go beyond the rational and therein lies the cunning in characterising the acceptors of the science as believers.

Big Val,

Interesting title to your post

'Alby on Bolt Today finally a Labor man with the guts to face him'

Can't agree -  think it's more to do with the fact that it's the 'same 'ol, same 'ol' right wing Bolt/Jones/Pickering 'Shock Jock-ism' resulting in those with a different opinion or perspective on an issue just switching off....Sadly most of us have just seen and heard too much of it to take it seriously....

But do like Albanese and to be honest would have preferred him to be elected Opposition Leader rather than Shorten.

Re:  Climate Change....no easy answers from me .....and yeah there's always been climatic changes on some scale - but from a purely naive, yet common sensical lay person's standpoint, cannot dismiss the fact that up until about 250- 300 years ago,  the world was basically functioning on an agricultural level.....and realistically  simply cannot ignore the fact that the copious quantities of pollution spewing into the planet's environment/atmosphere since the start of the Industrial Revolution proper (not forgetting other factors like deforestation etc.) has not and continues to have some sort of impact on the balance of the world as a complex ecosystem -  which until that time (The Industrial Revolution) had changed/evolved naturally and more gradually - and which to my limited understanding has manifested itself in Climate Change.....

So yes think I'd have to say I bellieve in Climate Change, simply because the changes wrought by the Industrial Revolution have never been experienced before on the planet  and Climate Change is the result.....

Worth a read

'What really annoys scientists about the state of the climate change debate?' - The Guardian, G. Readfearn, 26.6.14

'Why we care about the 97% Consensus on Human caused global warming' - The Guardian, D. Nucciletti, 24.6.14.

But always difficult to get to the truth when egos, politics and big money are involved....probably easier just to stick our heads in the sand ....

I think they (shock jocks) are becoming increasingly boring and their days are numbered.

I like Albanese as well, but do think that the Corporate (foreign) owned Media would be able to destroy him, at will.  Honest but vulnerable.... Shorten is more aware BUT unfortunately is a politician through and through with (worse still) USA sentiments.

Mind you we couldn't really get anything worse than what we currently have.... a useless statesman who is a fool and an embarrassment but who is willing to sell off and sell out Australia to any foreign corporation who cares to put in a bid.  Not to mention selling out 80% of Australians by selling off our assets, pouring money into the mega wealthy and extracting from the average Australia which will eventually ruin our economy and cause our standard of living to take a dive.

Hello Mussitate,

Quite like  the TV show 'QI' with Stephen Fry - ABC 1 - just before the news - and this topic puts me in mind of the inventor/engineer trained chemist 'Thomas Midgley' mentioned on the show a couple of days ago - and in my ignorance and in light of his impact on the world, a bit embarrasssed to admit to  never having heard his name before - who I believe not only  invented 'leaded petrol'  but whilst on the same roll, later went on to invent  'CFCs',  and who sadly ended up strangling himself with one of his own inventions....am told bad things sometimes come in 3s from time to time.

Anyway heaps of stuff out there about him but worth a read are the following articles:

'Thomas Midgley's One Man's Rampage Against the Environment' - Knowledge Nuts, D. Goland, 9.7.13.

'This Day in Science History - May 18 - Thomas Midgley Jr.' - A. Helmenstine, PH.D.  - 17.5.14.

'Thomas Midgley Jr - Toxipedia' - 26.4.14

'LEAD' - Part 2' - ABC Science

Yes, I watch QI with Stephen Fry (who is good) but get a bit annoyed at the substandard comic act.... guess I just want to hear the wonderful facts that are expressed and would appreciate less foolishness in between.  My partner loves the whole lot, which only goes to show that I probably need to loosen up a bit.

Cheers for the Thomas Midgley info.

BigVal and Twila

So, according to both of you, we have climate change but it is unstopable and has nothing to do with pollution and humans? Yes?

O..k..a..y, let's start from the FACT that this world is becoming highly, highly POLLUTED and the ones that have done the polluting NEED TO CLEAN IT UP.

Our rivers, our oceans and the very AIR we breath is POLLUTED, mostly by INDUSTRY.

I think we can ALL agree with that.... so WHY would we not get INDUSTRY (the ones polluting this world) to clean up their bloody mess.  It is in OUR self interest to keep OUR world clean and healthy.

Additionally, IF the climate IS due to UNnatural activities of human beings, is it not PRUDENT to simply take action to see if we can FIX it up.  Isn't it rather stupid to just sit there and say, "it's okay, it's natural"?  Human ingenuity may be able to alter this 'natural' or 'unnatural' phenomena IF everyone pulls together.

So what, if a few mega corporations have to pay more tax.... they extract and extract wealth and MOSTLY put nothing back...... it is time to be a co-operative world and not wealth for a few at any cost and destruction and poverty for everyone else.

It is time to CLEAN up our world AND to apply our intelligence to overcome ever increasing climate disasters.  It is that simple.

I belive that the planet IS changing --always has and always will--I do also believe that it is NOT the cows farting in the paddocks but the chopping down of forests and polluting of the planet that has to stop--also stopping the extingtion of animals and such -- that also has a part in it -- when you see the amount of garbage and the way we treat the planet it is disgraceful

Well at long last the carbon tax has gone the way of the dodo bird. Extinct.

Now you can breath the air and it is no longer taxed.

Now all we have to do is get rid of the RET so prices can come down

And  of course it hasnt warmed for 17 years and 10 months.

"And  of course it hasnt warmed for 17 years and 10 months."

I would like to see scientific proof of the claim. Not by Forbes or Anthony Watts or Monckton or Bolt but by reputable climate scientists. Claims that warming has paused over the last 16 years take no account of ocean heating.
