The Age of Entitlements is Over

Proposals to make politicians and bureaucrats shoulder their share of the weight now that the Age of Entitlement is over

1. Scrap political pensions.
Politicians can purchase their own retirement plan, just as most other working Australians are expected to do.

  2. Retired politicians (past, present & future) participate in Centrelink.
A Politician collects a substantial salary while in office but should receive no salary when they're out of office.
Terminated politicians under 70 can go get a job or apply for Centrelink unemployment benefits like ordinary Australians.
Terminated politicians under 70 can negotiate with Centrelink like the rest of the Australian people.

3. Funds already allocated to the Politicians' retirement fund be returned immediately to Consolidated Revenue.

This money is to be used to pay down debt they created which they expect us and our grandchildren to repay for them.

4. Politicians will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Politicians pay will rise by the lower of, either the CPI or 3%.

  5. Politicians lose their privileged health care system and participate in the same health care system as ordinary Australian people.
i.e. Politicians either pay for private cover from their own funds or accept ordinary Medicare.

  6. Politicians must equally abide by all laws they impose on the Australian people.

  7. All contracts with past and present Politicians men/women are void effective 31/12/14.
The Australian people did not agree to provide perks to Politicians, that burden was thrust upon them.
Politicians devised all these contracts to benefit themselves.
Serving in Parliament is an honour not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so our politicians should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX Parliament and help bring fairness back into this country!

I agree - where do I sign ?

A petition sounds like a great idea Gerry :)

If we can find somebody that knows how to set it up ???

Can you help with that sort of thing ?

This is just for copy and paste for individual friends, relatives to write to Senators and Ministers via link.

sorry I think it is all a waste of time..!

Yes agree fully --

Something like this is long overdue. For far too long, OUR elected representatives have been making laws, rules, provisions etc for US, but completely different conditions for THEMSELVES. Their actions have fomented jealousy and resentment and created an US and THEM mentality in the Australian people. There MUST be one set of rules for ALL.

The argument that we must offer these salaries and conditions to attract high calibre candidates is complete hogwash as one only needs to look at some of the dills and nitwits in public office to see the fallacy of that argument. We are constantly stuck with the candidates that Parties put forward, NOT the best person for the job.

Thanks Jane

Now all we need is somebody with some IT experience to get the ball rolling..... and send our pseudo royalty a message.

Me too..where do I sign? Too long have these fat cats been able to sit and pick their noses in the back benches. Get rid of half of them, and their parasitic behaviour. As kfchugo mentioned before, it has been said we get what we pay for..well..we're paying a mint in salaries as taxpayers and what we get is a bunch of turtles..it can't get any worse.

The ''age of entitlement'' is over, according to Treasurer Joe Hockey, but politicians continue to spend tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on flights to sporting events, study tours, recipe collections and children's books - such as Aliens in Underpants Save the World.

Department of Finance records show rising Liberal Party MP Jamie Briggs claimed almost $11,000 in entitlements over two years for travel to and from sporting events. For most of this period, November 2011 to November 2013, Mr Briggs was chairman of the Coalition's government waste committee, established to highlight the mismanagement of taxpayer money.

His entitlement claims included:

WHY is our Corporate Media NOT jumping up and down and telling us over and over for weeks and weeks about how terrible these lot are..... oops, sorry, I forgot.... wrong party.

I heard that they are going in for a third time to get SLIPPER....wasting our courts money and time (thrown out by the courts twice).  I guess there is NO wrath like a woman Abbott's scorn.

Abbott STOLE $84000 and that is AOK but if Abbott doesn't like you because he considers you did the dirty on him.... watch out because a mere $1000 will put you in prison.  Pauline Hanson found out the hard way.... she ended up in prison which was an unacceptable misuse of power by Howard's hench men...run by and orchestrated by Abbott.  Nasty piece of work, is our pseudo PM.

Oh for heavens sake Missitate, give it a rest.

Here I am in sunny Lapland enjoying an eggnog with Santa before dinner, and what do I see.

More idiocy from my dear Missi.

No presents for you this Christmas. Even Mrs Santa is fed up ith you.
