...will be suitably "pissed' if it was for real! lol lol lol

Got the first call several months  ago Foxy only it said "Virgin Airlines" not "Quantas". Have been getting them regularly ever since, at least 4 times a week. We hang up immediately but the calls keep coming. Feels spooky.

Robi

You are actually getting called by a machine.

You should put yourself on the DO NOT CALL LIST and then report it to your server.

I am on the 'Do not call register' Abby. Doesn't stop these calls.

My son said he had a call a couple days ago on his mobile  - also "supposedly" from Qantas - same thing - next we will see all these poor people on a "Current Affair" etc. whom have lost their money...............these "scammers" are clever because the "vunerable" get sucked in!

There have been enough warnings on TV, radio, newspapers about the "scams" but people are still getting caught and then they winge and whine about it.

Middle aged man on TV other night was caught.   I have come to the conclusion you cannot help these idiots who are getting caught up by these scammers and it is their own darn faul.

If someone offers you $18 million dollars but you have to continually  send money to an African country to enable it to be freed up you need to get your head read.

It all boils down to one word "greed".

You are a stupid idiot and I have not one bit of sympathy for any of you.

I have had similar calls but just hang up soon after they start.

Well I normally hang up also - but - this was different in the fact there was not a person on the other end of the line....it was a "recorded/automated" message telling me I had won as part of a Fly-by's incentive (I am a member of Fly-By's) - so it did make me "stop and think".

I am on the Do Not Call register but these o/seas "scammers" are obviously not privy to that?  Do not Call also does not stop a person from receiving calls from Market Research/Charity organisations from contacting you as these 2 organisations are 'exempt".

I had a call this morning. When I answered with a "Hello" there was no answer. After a while a female voice (sounded a bit robotic) said "Goodbye"

I found something on a forum which roughly stated "when you pick up and its quiet then says goodbye is basically a machine for telemarketers.  if you answer and hear goodbye , they know someone is at home so they will ring you around the same time of night or day during the week . Then they rang trying to sell stuff around that time,"

Gerry

What I usually do if no reasonable response to my hello is to hang up which means before I hear the goodbye . Its not rude and any genuine caller will be waiting for your hello rather than the long pause .

whenever I got the goodbye thing I knew a marketeer was going to call . Now if no reasonable response I just hang up .

I have had those saying I have won a flight --different times it says different Air lines --they tell you to press a number on the phone --(I always hang up)  if you press the Number I have heard that it allows them to make all sorts of phone calls anywhere in the world from YOUR phone.

I alo ger those that say "goodbye"

BTW I am on DO NOT CALL

Oh no! The very first time they rang I pressed the number they said to press to find out what it was about. Foreign accented guy came on and tried to sell me accommodation around the world. I said "no thanks" and hung up. Who do you report this stuff to?

Nobody Robi . A bit like spam in past yaers . Now ISPs or your mail app can block spam or send it to a junk box but phone numbers can be obtained easily . Our laws cannot touch overseas marketeers .

The 'Do not call register' did seem to stop these calls for a while. Maybe I need to update.

Thanks PlanB :)

I had one come on saying they were from the Australian Government doing a survey on part time jobs! Looked at caller ID - Overseas. The other one about computers needing something done - say I don't have one.

the annoying thing about overseas call identity is that if you have family overseas you cannot really afford not to answer it could be something important.

yes Viv -  you hit the nail on the head so to speak - my sister is in Canada and when o/seas calls come thru I have to pick up in case it is something serious!

One of my calls recently was supposedly from the "Australian Government" saying I had been "overtaxed" and that they owed me money and to give bank a/c details so they could replace it!!  - lol lol - That'd be the day they'd give you money back! Gotta admit it - these "scammers' are pretty good ...................

"Scammers" from "Microsoft" call regularly - you'd think they would give up by now .....

Seggie. I have a toy mobile telephone which says 'hello hello hello' and goes on and on.

It also plays 'Old Macdonald had a farm' over and over again, plus an engaged signal too depending which button you push.

Once you realise the call is from overseas idiots, press whichever button you like and keep pressing it until they decide to go.

Of course it is easier to hang up but hey, why deprive them of the fun we can have.

I've had calls from supposedly Telstra telling me that they can do a deal on my bill provided I call at such and such an office but tell them what day and time I'm going. Is this an advance burglary?  Thank goodness I'm not entirely stupid, well, not yet.

I was getting so many calls, I just kept my answering machine on 24/7 and only picked up when the person identified themselves. Like you Radish, I don't feel sorry for some of the people who get scammed on the get rich quick promises. They want something for nothing, so they get nothing. I feel sorry however for some of the lonely women who go looking for love..some of them need psychiatric help.

What puzzles me is why a woman or a man would send money to someone they have never met and then continue to send and send.  Some have sent vast sums of money;  it just defies belief.

As you said they need psychiatric help.
