Australian flag change

There has been discussion that if Scotland votes for independence will it mean a flag change for the Union Jack. This in turn could have questions about our own flag. If Scotland leaves the union it does not mean a flag change is required just that the flag has less meaning for the UK. In my opinion the presence of a foreign flag on our national flag has no place at all. So my position is it does not matter if the Jack changes or stays the same as long as its not part of our national flag.

A great sentiment Gerry, and i agree. I want to share my country ONLY with other Australians. Newcomers are welcome to join us and become Australians. Sure, they should honour their cultural heritage, religion, family bonds etc but first and foremost, they need to assimilate and become AUSTRALIANS. They need to learn the language, get a job, obey our laws and respect our culture and conventions. Immigrants leave their homeland for a better life and should not be bringing the problems, prejudices, fueds etc of their country of birth here with them.

I think we could do a lot worse for a new anthem that the Seekers song you refer to.

I think the PM reflects your sentiments as team Australia, one team ,

I think John Lennon's "Imagine" would nmake a good anthem for any country!

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee colored people by the score

this would be my choice.,
