Turmeric Smoothie

I've got coconuts and bananas (& mangoes in season) but none of the rest.

But looks nice :)

I don't normally drink smoothies but includes Turmeric which Phyl swears by so think I will get ingredients I haven't got and give it a try.

You chose so wisely Gerry to live out in the country and produce food, I certainly envy you for that.

Vivity, I told Phyl about the Turmeric when she first had cancer.  Barbra's Dietician  told her it was good to take some every day.  Asparagus & Avocado are very good as well.

The drink sounds really nice.  Might try one myself.  I like Mango Lassi's.

Wasn't sure what maca was, so looked it up now I know what it is I might leave it out( a supposed aphrodisiac)  Maybe that's why they said it's optional.

Lepidium meyenii, known commonly as maca, is an herbaceous biennial plant of the crucifer family native to the high Andes of Peru around Lake Junin.[1] It is grown for its fleshy hypocotyl (a fused hypocotyl and taproot), which is used as a root vegetable, a medicinal herb, and a supposed aphrodisiac. Its Spanish and Quechua names include maca-maca, maino, ayak chichira, and ayak willku

Wonder if Phyl takes Maca and overdosed on it causing her to jump on Zapot? :))

Maybe but I'm sure she wouldn't want to us to tell her. Might ruin her day.

So lovely to see her posting full of life again - she is a joy to us all.

I had not seen any of these posts. Very nice reading :)

I have been taking a big spoon of Turmeric since you said about Barbra, Sandi. I have it every second day in Pumpkin cup o soup for lunch.

Viv. I made the smoothie and will again. It is a different taste but quite nice. I used pineapple as no Mangoes here yet.

I had not heard of Maca at all. Re my jumping on Zapot (psst he is very used to me doing strange things) I often tip him and his recliner backwards so he is trying to watch tele. through his feet lol. But I also leave him little gifts in strange places and notes. We are still on our honeymoon (lol). It will not change after the years we have been married.

Every day is an adventure.

I agree re tumeric...I have a teaspoon in a glass of water daily (sometimes I forget though).  Not that great a taste but bearable.

Cumin is better for you...

Is on sale at Coles this week

TURMERIC IS TURNING OUT TO BE SOME SPICE!.Turmeric is turning out to be some spice!

Turmeric contains Curcumin which apart from its strong anti-inflammatory effects, (without the possibility of causing stomach ulcers), has now been found to help combat memory loss as well as helping to improve concentration.

Studies at the Swinburne University of Technology in a trial of 60 adults between 60 and 85 years of age, who were given fat soluble capsules of Turmeric (Curcumin), the most startling result was the large reduction in fatigue, which can be involved with depression and cognitive decline. They are now researching Turmeric for fatigue in people of all ages.

I quite like the powder in soup.

I will make that cake. I use Yogurt in cooking a lot, the vanilla one from Aldi in the big tub.

I see no need to buy very expensive Saffron for it's colour, as Turmeric does the job quite well and dirt cheap ")

I usually buy the lux pack from

http://www.saffrondust.com.au/novin-saffron-threads-5g-lux-pack/

I use it for my eyes - A small pinch about 15 threads equates to 20mg the recommended dosage every morning.

Yes it is rather expensive but it is made out of the stigma of the crocus flower which there is one of and is very small and labour intensive harvesting and drying. They do sell it on eBay but I do not know about the quality control there as some bulk it up with yellow stamens which surround the red stigma.

Had a fresh pineapple, some coconut milk and apart from the Maca and Coconut Oil I had the rest of the ingredients for the smoothie.

I also added half a banana and it turned out very nice indeed.   I halved the ginger, tumeric and cinnamon as I felt it might be a bit overpowering but may use the 1/2 teaspoons full next time.

Ever the "other half" thought it very tasty.

Radish IF you enjoy soup (homemade is of course the best) but if just looking for a quick mug and IF you enjoy Pumpkin soup the Cup'of'Soup in a big mug, with a heaped soupspoon of Turmeric is really nice, and a way to take a good amount.

Sounds like a good recipe Radish - a good idea to split the recommended dosage of slightly rounded teaspoon into two.

Or as Phyl says Pumpkin Soup probably can take the hit in one

Thanks Phyl.   Yes, I will do that.  In fact I had a large leek and a piece of broccoli in the frig so I decided to make a leek, potato and broccoli soup.  Also threw in three cloves of garlic from our garden.  Put in a litre of chicken soup and it turned out very tasty and will have enough for three meals.  Will freeze two and have one lot tonight and I will put in some tumeric.

I love pumpkin soup Abby but I find the butternut is too sweet for our taste and will use one of the other varieties.  I also put in ground up cashews if I think it needs a bit of a thicken and that gives a nice taste too.
