So this is Christmas or Pissedmass

How many of you are going to Church on Christmas day which is the whole reason for the festive season?

The Americans call it " Holiday " with no mention of baby Jesus at all

The children are worried about Santa / toys/ foods and not much else.

The silly party season is here again and Australia shuts down from now until the middle of Febuary.

How many will be killed on the roads this year?

Enjoy yourself.

You can take that cynical view or you can do what most do and celebrate the closing of another year and spend quality time with family and friends and if that involves a few beers, why not? Those with a religious bent will thank their God and those agnostics/athiests will no doubt just enjoy the holiday season. Gifts for the kids? - sure, after all, its Christmas. Some people can see the miserable side of any situation.

Don't most people rejoice and celebrate and give presents on a birthday?

Sure Jesus is honoured by going to Church, or just being remembered in a family's own way.

Children have somthing to look forward to all year, their birthday, and Jesus birthday, and many small shops and people who sell in markets, make some money, and employees of big shops also.

Christmas is what people make of it. A reason to drink is not everyone's cup of tea, lol but as long as not driving or anything else which could endanger lives, their business.

Christmas means just that, A Mass held for Christ to rejoice in his birth to those who have the faith, whether or not it is his actual birthday,  does not really matter, it is the celebration....Holiday just means 'Holy Day". as it is the same time of the year pagans celebrated something pre Christmas times, so even pagans today can enjoy the festivities

Absolutely agree with you Phyl and Seth....it doesn't matter what people do at Christmas....that's up to them..but there is no denying the good cheer that's spread around at that time. It's as if people "sense" something.

Exactly correct Seth...A Mass held for Christ.  In our family it doesn't matter when Jesus was born..like most Christians December 25th is a chance to stop and reflect. Christmas Eve is even more special to us. We try to go to Midnight Mass and again this year my fiance will be coming with us (he is Jewish). When there are celebrations at the Synagogue I also attend. We are both made very welcome at either place of worship.

I don't want to be condecending and say I feel sorry for people who feel such high disregard for Christmas....but I can't help feeling that their lives would be all the richer if they join in celebrations..albeit not in a religious sense...but spreading a feeling of good cheer!

Merry Christmas to all!

lol -  Doesn't anyone on here have any humour anymore????  Sheesh ......  I'm having "pissedmass" !!  - Champagne whilst cooking - champagne with late lunch - champagne with cheese/fruit platters/chocs etc. and a Baileys/Penfold Club Port -  late evening....and another when people have gone home!!!   lol lol lol

Great name Davey "Pissedmass" lol  - and a Happy one to you!!!  People on here need to "lighten up" a bit more - might do them some good!      :-)

Thanks for your replies......we have the family this year...so all of you folk enjoy your Christmas as you think fit.

...weren't you booked into the RSL for lunch?  You said you were earlier.......?

Yes in the RSL for lunch but the kids and partners are staying here.

We are having our turkey on New Years Day.

This is the first Xmas without Lochie so we are making it different.

HI FOXY,   thanks for you ;ho ho ho,  lol,     will be in touch before the big day, promise,  have been flat out with doc nearly every day,   and xmas deliveries,  but finish tomorrow i hope, so will have time for myself,

Xmas is a Pagan festival, it has NOTHING at all to do with Christ. There IS NO WHERE in the Bible that tells one to celebrate "Xmas" or even mentions Christ's Birthday--NO WHERE ! It only tells you to observe his death. Also Christ would NOT have been born on the 25th December, as the Sheppards were in the fields tending their sheep --and they would NOT have been in the fields in the Northern Hemisphere in December as it would have been their winter. Xmas is all about St Nicholas and is purely pagan. So has many spending money they don't have on people they couldn't give a hoot about, its all pure BS!

Totally agree with you Jane

GD you jumped in too early........Before... Christmas time ... It was the end of a season festival time, for the pagans,  with the coming of Christianity the festival was eventually changed when it became the time to hold a mass in remembrance of his birth. of course his actual birth is not known

Of course it is not in the Bible, why would anyone think it should be?              It is a man/woman made celebration of an event accepted by many.

Why get so angry over something you do not accept, No one is forced to.

Just how someone feels about it, does not make it less enjoyable to see the eyes of children light up or those of loved ones.

I much prefer to have had the years of sharing Christmas with my family as a child, as a father with his children, then grandchildren, now grt grandchildren

I only hope those who are alone can look back with fond memories of how it was, and receive peace of mind.

Who is angry $eth :)

I got may bales of hay ... I am happy :)

Seth you ask why should it be in the Bible, ?

Well isn't everything relating to Christ --in the Bible?

Definitely not PlanB...everything relating to Jesus is not in the Bible. Jesus never wrote a word and the Bible was not written until couple of hundred years later (I believe)...

Like many Good Books of its kind....they had many authors..everyone had something to say. What we do know for sure he was on earth...he was a good man..he managed to do wonders without shedding a drop of blood. He was and still is a Light of the World...

Yes Abby and I don't have to be told to eat -- or run around like a headless chook, or do special stuff with family on Xmas  as I can eat what I want ANY DAY -- treat all the same any day, if someone needs something and you see it --can buy it ANY DAY.

Xmas is just another way for the big business to get you to spend spend spend

You are quite right people should be nice to each other everyday and not be hipocrits over some pagan festival.

Everything is cheaper after Xmas anyhow - but having said that  I got my wish from Santa which I cannot say no to -- 4 bales of lucerne hay in front of my garage this morning :)

Abby I am pleased you got some hay--are you in the drought areas ?

Appreciate the point you're making PlanB and can relate to your sentiments regarding the rampant consumerism, unrealistic expectations, and stress the event sometimes places on people.

Have drastically pared back in recent years and these days much prefer a minimalist Christmas.  Still enjoy the simple pleasures of putting up and decorating a Christmas tree, eating Turkey once a year, and simple, cheap to reasonably priced gift giving to my immediate family only.   But no longer subject myself to the large extended family or friendship extravaganzas of the past and the expense and exhausting diplomacy, energy, patience, and tact required to negotiate  these events....But still do send cheap Xmas cards to extended family....

Was raised steeped in the religiosity of the occasion so still do go to Church at Christmas but basically, and more so these days, think  I've always just seen it as a time of  appreciation for those who are genuinely 'our nearest and dearest'...Yep keep it simple....

Jane

The drought must have been expected as they put us on water restriction but since that announcement it has done nothing but rain  rain and rain....go figure.

Abscond and mate having Christmas dinner, always thought you were a donkey!

The poor donks are looking a bit lean on it

Hey  Dopey

How about changing into your more apt avatar  :)

Plan B people of different faiths have their festivals and holy days ..on occasions that they decide .

With Christnas as the drop in the western world of people who though profess to be Christian but in fact are non practising ,grows . So does the commercialisation of Christmas grow.

Yes Pete sure is commercialised

I just wonder how religions can get away with stating that it is Christ's Birthday ?  Also how so many people can be sucked in by it all?

If you say it is not Christ's birthday.......WHAT IS IT?

Just pagan BS Davey, a money making racket

Lots of people see and feel differently about most things in life.

Christmas brings SO much joy to SO many people. Christmas also creates many jobs for many people.

I find it is something people/children can look forward to the whole year, but if like you P.B. dislike it and everything it stands for, are not forced to enjoy it. :)

I guess some people as they get older can experience very little joy in heaps of things.

Sport being one of them but that also brings much joy to the masses, and those hate it do not have to enjoy it.

We are just so blessed in this Country.Happy Birthday Jesus Relaxed Fit Tshirt, Tumblr Tee, Graphic tees ...

You know Phyl I think that some people on here were not born but put together from a few left over pieces that made others normal.

Beats me that people can still say it is Christ's birthday ?!-- must be brain washed
