Greyhound Racing - Introduction of Bill for 'ag-gag" law set before the Senate

In the wake of the exposure of live baiting in the greyhound racing industry, the industry has set a Bill before the Senate which would make such investigations a crime - the 'ag-gag' laws.

This law does not protect animals, but proctects the industries that exploit them.

This was forwarded to me, and for those that haven't received it, would you please read and sign if you have a concern for animals.

I would hope that Micha and geomac who dislike me, don't railroad this as they did with the previous one I submitted.  This is not about me, the messenger, but an issue concerning all in a civilised society.

Twila if you are hoping for a serious discussion you are in the wrong place . Just treat this site as a laugh .

I will discuss with you prob via PM the problems with this bill .

One is that it will give free reign to Animal activists who interfere with the normal food chain . Ie The reactive banning of live beef trade . Depriving others of protein .

Ths is not comparable with the deliberate cruelty of Greyhound racing , cock fghting , or bull fightng etc . Or caged Zoos Or caged pets etc etc ...

most of those on here have led a very sheltered life .And not in a position to comment on matters outside there little limited worlds ..

Pete,

You comments are always valuable and well-consided.  Thank you.

Personally, I do not like the abuses of the live-beef trade.  There are alternatives to this, even in the places receiving them.

There is never an excuse for such animal suffering as we have witnessed.

Twils there are no a abuses in the live beef trade . Animals have to be transported tothe Abatoirs .

The rest of the world is entitled to fresh beef which we have or Lamb or Buffalo or camel or horse .

What we should concentrate on is cruelty in sport and the pet trade .

Pete, to say there are no abuses in the live beef trade is simply a lie.  It's an absolute disgrace and a shame on Australia and every other nation that perpetrates such cruelty on sentient beings.  The world is NOT entitled to fresh beef, lamb or anything else at such a horrendous, inhumane cost.

Cruelty to animals in sport and entertainment is no different.

Right now, a Bill is in front of the Senate

that would make those investigations a crime.

If these new laws were already in place,

the brave people who uncovered this widespread cruelty

could be fined enormous amounts of money, or even be thrown in jail,

for collecting this undercover evidence. Talk about shooting the messenger!

That's why they're called 'ag-gag' laws, because their aim is to 'gag' animal advocates.

This has nothing to do with depriving people of protein. What a load of garbage. It is about animal cruelty and breaking the law.

Obviously peete agrees that our protected Australian fauna should be tied up so they can be torn apart by dogs. If anyone agrees with this cruelty then they need help.

peete, your comment "most of those on here have led a very sheltered life .And not in a position to comment on matters outside there little limited worlds .." is a sign that you are a narcissist and think that anyone who disagrees with you does not belong.

Your other comment "Twila if you are hoping for a serious discussion you are in the wrong place . Just treat this site as a laugh ." proves the narcissism.

Your aim is to belittle any comment that differs to your own and make out you are big time who knows more that anyone else.

No just I find my time with my children to valuable to waste on idiots .,,

Dead right Gerry.  Pete is talking utter garbage.

Attaboy Gerry, well said!

Legislation going before the South Australian Parliament aims to strengthen regulation of greyhound racing to try to stamp out any live baiting during training of dogs.

Yes, well said Gerry, although I think that your reasonable and rational assessment of pete will fall on death ears....."none so blind......." as they say.

KF C to you support greyhound racing ?????

This petition is about "ag-gag Law"

It is a different petition to  Greyhound Blooding Petition

At-gag- when animal laws protect the abusers not the abused.

Abby agree Agree the linking of it to Grey Hound racing muddies the petition - it is about All animal abuse whether Puppy Farms, Caged Chickens or live Beef export etc, etc.

the Producers need exposing and gagging and punishing the Animal Activist Whistleblowers will protect those out to make money out of animal cruelty and leave all animals exposed to cruelty if this Bill is not opposed.

I was not aware and was only recently informed that LIVE baiting is illegal but the use of dead animals is NOT. I am certainly not sympathetic to any kind of cruelty to animals and can see no reason why greyhounds could not be trained using already dead baits... that would preserve the integrity of the greyhound racing industry and hopefully keep the animal welfare lobby happy.

kfchugo,

The question, of course, begs: how would the dead bait be obtained?  It could well involve cruelty before it reaches the greyhounds.

How about we just grow up and do away with all "industries" of "sport" and "entertainment" involving animals?  Who needs it?  They are all corrupt, cruel, greedy, and couldn't care less about the addictions, family misery and poverty these so called "industries" create.  Not a single good thing comes out of any of them.  One of the (many) reasons Campbell Newman was thrown out on his butt was, he wanted to give $110 million of taxpayer dollars to the racing industry.  Yeah right Campbell, the people spoke!

Hello Twila

Just saw this.

The law is disgusting. How on earth can the justify it.

And Gerry - one hope's they were put to death humanely, but we'd never know

I signed Twils ... If the law has incorporated that cruelty must be reported immediately then I am satisfied it cannot be misused ...

oooooo bad spam today.

How dare you call Twila's "thread" spam?  You are just an insensitive  AH  !

DH

Double AH and a double DH -  you would have to be the most insidious male on this whole website!!!  Argh!

Wonders why this Feb. post has been re-vamped?  Anyway good one Twila - sad that today they have found 50 plus carcasses of greyhounds somewhere in Qld. (Bundaberg?)  not sure?

This is just another industry that has been "under" the radar for a long long time!  If "men" can make any kind of living out of poor dear animals - they will!!  Women are too compassionate to exploit animals the way "men" do!!  Appalling and pathetic!!!

Sexist comment

Sound like something an old feminist would say.

im a man an completely in touch with my sensitive parts

Foxy,

Sadly it seems that when gambling and money are introduced into a sport involving animals, the animals' well-being is the first to go.  Animals just become a means to an end.

Crikey is Gay Waterhouse  a man , never knew that ...

Hello Pete

wiuld have thought his first name was a dead giveaway

Yeah Denzel - I'm actually Germaine Greer!   So suck it up chauvenist!!! ...and - have "fun" with ya "sensative parts" lol lol lol  (the mind boggles?)

Denzel

Are you one of the naughty Greypath boys that caused the closure of the Senate ?

Foxy, sadly you "may" find that a husband and wife (may) be the culprits in the deaths of these 50 greyhounds.  Wife 64, husband 71.

Women can be as callous and heartless as any man.

Actualy Densi I think it is Gai Waterhouse .

Wonder how many horses she sends to slaughter a year , because they don't perform?

Nothing more I would like to see than the closing down of greyhound racing.

I am with you on that Radish.... beside being cruel to animals it is just a means for the poor to loose their money.

I agree with you Radish.
