19 May 2016 — We have listened to you.

The Turnbull Government will be undertaking a comprehensive review of seasonal workers, including working holiday maker visa holders.

We have also announced that under a re-elected Turnbull Government we will defer the start of the changes to treat all working holiday makers as non-residents for tax purposes from July 1 for six months, pending the outcome of the review process.

We recognise that working holiday makers are an important source of labour, and the review of working holiday makers will ensure our labour supply is adequate and Australia remains competitive globally.

Following feedback from you and industry experts, the review will consider agricultural and seasonal labour needs, overseas wages and taxes, and opportunities in agriculture and tourism.

In contrast Labor has said that they will implement the changes if they are elected, as outlined in the Shadow Treasurer’s speech at the National Press Club last year.

Just like 2013 except no statement saying no cuts to the this and that ( Abbott ) while waiting to do just that. Its all on the backburner. Every week Turnbull loses more cred as he morphs into Abbott on policy. Same corpse different undertaker.

Agree with both of you (PlanB & geomac)..... same old, same old.

The Liberal Party are specifically a party that supports big business which involves taking the wealth from the people and puting it in the pockets of the wealthy....... AND in order to do that, they must LIE and of course, have their CORPORATE MEDIA mates on board to help them manipulate their lies into a 'good look' for the people.

Once again, you are spot on.... unfettered power to fill their own pockets and hand over our wealth and sovereignty to megacorps... mostly foreign!

We can only hope that there is no rigging or Google interference (when you seach anything political, Liberal's come up with smiling faces and good stuff and Labor & Greens comes up with ugly pictures and bad stuff) during the last few days. I am not being silly... Google has done this before and caused what professionals and investment houses have termed "miracle" wins .... UK, Israel, Turkey are three examples, whereby the ultra neo cons won when it was forecast that they would suffer 'heavy' defeats and lose the elections.

If we are lucky and there is no interference, the Libs double disillusion move to wrangle SENATE power away from the Greens and Independents into their own laps, will backfire and they will lose even more ground in the SENATE. It is crucial that they do not control the senate and I am very afraid that the NEW voting system, will be in the favour of the Libs.

I used to like Nick Xenophon but during the last 6-9 months he has been acting as if the Libs have something over him (another example of what the collection of our private information is all about.... to ensure that any detractors or advercarial are controlled).

Those behind the Liberal Party will use every dishonest, fraudulent and corrupt method to get what they want.

This election is about control of Australia, it's wealth and it's democratic processes..... the people or the megacorps (mainly foreign).... it is THAT important!

There is some logic (and law) behind Turnbull deferring some things now his government is in caretaker mode, but from the day he became leader Malcolm has been deferring almost anything that might annoy some voters, both in the political centre, and among the hard core, right wing, religious nutters in his party

In regard to the Libs plan to tax casual workers.... WHY are they making such a noise about this area but allowing more and more 457visa holders into Australia as our NEW workforce. They are POURING into Australia and like the 7/11 stores, they are abused in most cases but still better off here than at home.

The Libs have extended the requirement to reapply for 457 visa holder entry from 3years to 5years. So that is 5 years mostly without any form of checks or investigation PLUS the industries and sectors that have been named as acceptable for 457 visa applications has broadened extensively. Whole sectors rather than just specific SKILLS are the basis for 457 visa applications. As seen on the ABC, our ports are an example of how Australians can't get even skilled jobs in this area because of the huge influx in 457 visa holders.

Remembering, of course, that:

1. NO health checks (ie. TB & AIDS)

2. NO security checks (ie. anyone can just roll up)

3. NO govt dept with the ability to undertaken checks on the rampant influx and misuse of this form of labour

4. MANY of these 457 visa holders simply "disappear" into Australia as illegal immigrants.... (terrorists in particular)

THE NUMBERS of 457 visa holder IMPORTS into our economy are way, way, way larger than the 'piddling' amounts of Refugees that are trying to escape persecution and fleeing for their lives BUT we never hear about them from corporate media.

It is in the interests of mega corps AND every small to medium business to gain access to cheap labour... although the idiot small to medium businesses, don't realise that more money in their pockets means a lot less in the pockets of their CUSTOMERS which obviously leads to less sales and the destruction of a healthy economy which in turn affects their own livelihood (greedy idiots). Just look to what cheap labour from Mexico, etc, did for the USA small to medium businesses... collapse and poverty!

SORRY, PlanB, got carried away... this topic is a serious one which the Corporate Media glosses over, as it is yet another attack on the wealth of the average Australian and designed to wrench control of our wealth and democracy away from us and into their own (foreign) pockets. For example: when you are desperate to pay off your mortgage and not lose what you have and there is HUGE competition from 457visa holders, you accept anything to survive.... that is what megacorps want... a ready pool of people to take whatever they dish out... no safety, no rights, no fairness!

I agree with your comments Muss, these 457s have NO Health work and Saftey -- and are exploited to the full extent -- however Turnbull has shares in the likes of 711.

I also know that the threat of TB / AIDS and many other diseases are rampant -- and have been for many decades, having worked at a Hospital saw so much of it even when the Vietnamese were coming out -- it goes back that far for TB anyway.

They also need to stop the tax on Backpackers -- and also I have asked

WHERE DOES THEIR SUPER GO ONCE THEY RETURN HOME?

So much Muss has to have answers but never does.

Innes, Muss was right with his list especially No 1 I know as I was a hospital worker and saw how many were infected with TB and nothing was said to the Pubilc

In addition to the standard health examination requirements additional health examinations can also be requested for applicants in certain countries where considered necessary to address public health and safety risks. For example, to help prevent the spread of Polio or Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) infection.

These standard health examinations are done in their own country by their own doctors AND only when their is a major world health problem additional examination "can" not MUST be undertaken, IF these people come from certain countries. Additional problem is that by the time a 'world' health alert is out, it is way too late... again, sorry but you deserve another Duh moment.

If the Libs get control of the SENATE, PlanB is right, there will be a land slide of BIG BOY one liner policies put into legislation.

Our democratic processes will be controlled henceforth and the wealth of the people will be continually drained away into the pockets of the wealthy elite (leashholders of their corporations). Services and benefits and infrastructure and growth of our nation will falter and the system of democracy will fail within 15-20 years. Leaving us with increasing poverty, slums, violent crime, and drugs out of control. As with the USA the very social fabric of a nation in tatters.
