Windows 10

Windows 10 will cease to be a free update on 29 July 2016, exactly a year after its initial release to the general public. After the free upgrade period, Windows 10 Home will cost £99.99 and the Pro version will set you back £189.99.

I have no regrets in going with windows 10 and am glad I made the decision to do so. I would never go back.

Gerry, you are just the man to ask.  Can you tell me if Windows 7 will continue to get updates for the foreseeable future.  I would like to stay with it if I can and would like to know if the rumour that they will stop supporting it very soon is true or not.  Thanks.

Toot they are going to stop offering the 10 on the 29/7/16

I also have a Vista but I MIGHT get that to 10 but will pay for it to be done -- it is in a desk top -- see how that goes and I might get the laptop 7 done as well -- if I like it --

Toot I took this from the microsoft site

Thanks Gerry, do you know the differene between 'mainstream support' and 'end of extended support'?

My opinion of those is-
Mainstrean support - Support is free and updates are downloaded automatically.
Extended support - You may have to search for support items or they may be available for a fee.

Others may have a different opinion on this.

That's how I understand it Gerry, I've got 7 on my old laptop which I hadn't opened for some time, went into it last night and found there were a lot of programs that would not update automatically, they had to be done manually...

I upgraded my big laptop some time ago and glad I did, I've also uploaded hubby's from Windows 8 to 10 as well, both happy with the change.

I did update a Friend's laptop from W8 to W8.1 now to W10 and boy anything is better than the Windows 8,  what a nightmare that was/is

Can anyone tell me the main difference between windows 7 and 10?

Like anything Franky the technology gets better.  I have Windows 8.1 installed and can use either the traditional desktop or the genY favoured one which is on iPhones and the like.  Also, Windows 7 is not going to be supported by Microsoft for much longer so that becomes an issue with vulnerabilities I believe.  Either way they want you to update eventually.

Windows say that I cannot have W 10  because of NVIDIA that is installed.

Windows 10 has inbuilt (big brother) spyware.  I have been fighting windows 10 off relentlessy as Microsoft repeatedly tries to install it on my computer.  You have to wonder WHY Microsoft is so insistent.

I have found out and recorded the Updates which are the problem and now simply hide them in the update list and refuse to install them.  That way I do not have to contend with this virus masquerading as an operating system.

I'm confused

I regularly get Windows 8.1 updates from Microsoft. It was never stated anywhere that some of these so called updates were nothing more than installers for Windows 10.  I only found out which ones to avoid by googling the topic.

I have isolated now the problematic ones and I do not get them sent anymore but that has not stopped Microsoft from putting in an occasional new one to catch users out. Free from this virus so far.

Mick

Any chance of you sharing these problematic updates ?

Well started Wed, waited 24 hours with dell sign and little circle going around, then reverted back to old version. Tried again, 29 hours, and know can only get explorer and can't search on it. Not internet explorer, windows explorer.... So stuffed computer! Not happy
