Labor wins in NT

Labor has won the Northern Territory election, with at least 15 MPs in the 25-seat parliament.

With 35 per cent of the vote counted, the ALP is expected to win 17 of the seats, while the CLP will be reduced to just four, according to the ABC election website.

Yawn!

and your point is ?

Labor has romped to victory in the Northern Territory election, wiping out the Country Liberal Party government after just one term.

Incoming Chief Minister Michael Gunner thanked voters for the "extraordinary" result and promised a better government than the CLP had provided over the previous four years.

The losing CLP leader, Adam Giles, blamed his loss on disunity within his party.

Malcolm's lucky there's none of that at the federal level.

LOL

NT election late counting

Former Labor leader Delia Lawrie looked likely to hold Karama as an Independent on election night, but out-of-electorate votes have greatly favoured Labor, and Labor now looks set to win with a 50.9-49.1 lead.

In Blain and Nhulunbuy, actual preference counts have put the Independent candidates ahead. Former CLP Chief Minister Terry Mills, who was deposed by Giles, has won Blain. Giles himself is 25 votes behind in Braitling.

The ABC is now giving Labor 16 of 25 seats, to 2 for the CLP and 4 Independents. The final result is likely to be Labor 18, CLP 2, Independents 5.

The independents will or should be the opposition. That raises the question of their independence status if the opposition is to be a united effort or a loose grouping.

Is Dastyari fit to be MP

An Indigenous education charity has returned a donation from prominent Labor senator Sam Dastyari, following revelations he asked a communist-linked Australian-Chinese donor to foot an expenses bill when he exceeded parliamentary travel entitlements.

Coalition MPs questioned whether he should remain in Parliament after the $1670 arrangement with businessman Minshen Zhu, was revealed by Fairfax Media

Senator Sam Dasyardi admonished by a senior factional ally and is facing further scrutiny after it was revealed he backed China's position in the South China Sea dispute at an event with a Chinese-Australian political donor who has previously forked out for his legal bills.

In a June press conference for Chinese media, Senator Dastyari pledged to respect China's position in the hostile dispute with other Asian nations and the United States, at odds with the Labor Party's position, The Australian Financial Review reports.

The new Labor govt is going to restore a speed limit of 130 km/h on the non-speed restricted part of the road between Alice Springs and Darwin.

Giles has done a John Howard.

"Adam Giles has become the first Chief Minister in the Northern Territory to lose his seat while in government..."

How embarrassing.

No way the CLP can be an opposition with just two seats. Coalition of the independents ?
