Telstra fined $10 million in Federal Court

The Federal Court fined Telstra $10 million yesterday for chargining up to 100,000 Telstra customers for third-party online content without their knowledge or agreement.

The Premium Direct Billing service customers were charged for games and ringtones outside the usual app marketplace. Some customers were charged for services associated with other people's numbers or the previous owner of that phone number.

Justice Moshinsky found that Telstra's conduct was deliberate and that senior management was aware that the steps the company had taken to deal with the problems had not been effective.

Up until October 2017, Telstra had received $61.7 million in net revenue from the service. Telstra has currently refunded around $5 million to affected customers.

It's KARMA ! Long overdue. But why aren't they sitting in jail like most shoplifters do?

Exactly, why don't these people go to gaol?  We are hearing so much about white collar crime these days and zero about anyone doing time. Take the GFC for instance, I don't think too many of the big wigs went to prison for their corrupt behaviour and the same with the banking royal commission, whilst it was vital to bring this to the public's attention, I bet we won't hear of too many going straight to gaol and not passing GO!!

Because the state and federal governments don't set the example. But, for saving face, bet you, they are sorting out whom they can use as a scapegoat rather then prosecuting the entire whole pack of dogs. And, dogs they are!

Way back in 2006 Tony Abbott then Health Minister did media release saying Pharmacists were all pushing out generics as getting paid more for these than for the orignal tested on humans drugs.

He couldnt jail the lot of them so devised a plan to return the overpayments and stop the push - as it was generics companies paying to push these etc.

But in 2007 Labor got into power and the whole thing stopped as no record aftr the change of government of above plan going forward - was to expire in 2012.

And still these Pharmacists now stock mainly generics and you often have to wait a day to get an original. So must be still getting better profit from them.

Atthe expense of those who say - works for me -

As happens on all things discussed seemingly.

Even get some say the age pension isnt too low as they can manage etc.

There is so much white collar crime and it is getting worse -- lead by the Governments-- we are all being treated like idiots and it is about time it was ALL brought out into the open.

It has been going on for decades

We all have the option to see off politicians we feel are out for their own greed and filling their back pockets - as you say too many of these kind.

Its called picking whom to give your vote too.

Not just going for Labor Greens or whatever.

Yes look at party but also if the person is standing again and you know they are not doing hteir best for majority - then vote elsewhere or just write why informal across the ballot ticket,  and put it into the box.

Write to newspaper etc. Or to your party of choice and tell them to pick better candidates.........

I would like to see a Royal Commission into politicians....but who would call it   LOL!!

Yes that would be great Radish -- we sure would see some dirt come out then

It would be OK if it was televised ... sure would make a good reality TV Show ...make a best seller and possibly get us out of our debt:)

About time too! They got off too lightly.
