My Health dot gov

Every second week Your Life Choices reports another breach of privacy and a database falling into the wrong hands.

We all think we can be wise to scams, hacks and Phishing sites. Then the Federal Government decides it’s OK to seconder all  your medical records for the government database Myhealth.gov.au.

You have 3 months from yesterday to opt out. If you choose to do this I recommend you do this by phoning not by going online. They ask for your Medicare number, your date of birth and drivers licence. Should you phone then you aren’t required to give your driver’s licence.

Children will also be “opted in” the database. Traced for life.

I fear, like the Centrelink database with a 10% acceptable error rate that this database will actually kill people due to incorrect or outdated data.

I am concerned people will avoid going to the doctor because they don’t want their medical details on a government database. How easy would it be to deny anyone Centrelink payments to anyone with a record of taking drugs? How easy would it be to recreate the genocides we have seen last century with a central medical database?

Why is necessary to opt out and not opt in? Where else do we not get the option of signing a privacy policy waver before “we” receive a service?

Why do they need all our medical records? If it is useful for emergency departments to have this information then why isn’t just a current list of medications and vital statistics made available on a medical database?

Going to your doctor and knowing the information was private was a treasured right. Why has it been so readily taken from us?

I think My Health Record is the least of our worries re security because it is merely another portal on MyGov.

MyGov already has your Medicare, ATO, Centrelink, myAgedCare, etc records within the same data base ... all are interconnected.

Just did a check on my "My Health Record" as I have been on there for years. My GP records, various hospitalisations and numerous tests I've had have not been added in the last 5 years ... bit of a farce IMO as the vast majority of my "essentials" re any emergency or effective reference are missing in action.

I keep my own health record now as MyHealth is basically bereft of my essentail details ... bit sad really.

Repeat, regarding security, prospective "lookers" can find out much more from your Medicare and ATO records if the interconnected system is illegally hacked, My Health Record is like an also-ran in that regard I think.

Inaccuracy will be the key factor which may cost people their lives. Its so much better to get 1st hand information and not make assumption from out of date data.

People think it will save lives. Its amazing how we have managed so well until now. I understand the doctors get reimbursed for every patient they add to myhealthrecord. So they get paid for breaking the Hippocratic Oath!

Unfortunately you can't opt out as somehow you have already been opted in. You can however hide your records from I am not sure who. It isn't deleted until 30 years past your death.

"Inaccuracy will be the key factor which may cost people their lives."

Exactly.

The reason why:

"I keep my own health record now as MyHealth is basically bereft of my essentail details"

I wish it wasn't so, but in my personal experience it is.

Wish My Health Record had all my essential details, then I wouldn't have to do it myself.

Couldn't give a flying continental if it's kept after my death ... I'll be dead after all. My aim with relevant health records is to keep living LOL.

Yes Like you RnR

I carry my own Health Record in my wallet  ... and I know it is up to date.

Today I officially opted out ...did it on line everything went smoothly.

You have to have your Medicare card and your Driving License or some other government document.
