Loose screw in Coles bun wrecks $4000 smile

A young Queensland mother is in talks with Coles after she said she bit into a screw when she was munching on a bun she bought at the supermarket.

Skye-April Cullen from Hervey Bay posted pictures of the metal screw she claims was in the bread roll - and said she could have fed it to her baby.

"I am bloody disgusted and have cut my mouth open," Ms Cullen wrote on social media.

"I have a baby who is just starting to eat who could have just as easily ate this last night."

She said she bought a six-pack of Coles branded bread rolls for her dinner on Tuesday and had eaten a few bites when she felt her tooth crack and tasted blood.

The screw cracked a tooth and damaged her "4000 dollar smile", she claimed.

Coles told news.com.au it had contacted the customer to follow up the complaint.

"As always we encourage customers to return any item they're not 100 per cent happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement," the retailer said.

Have you ever bitten into a foreign object inside food you were eating?

It may not be the fault of Coles at all. The flour manufacturers use machinery that contain screws and who knows if one accidentally fell into a bag of flour.

Only this woman knows whether she is telling the truth..but I have misgivings. I do agree with the comment feeding a bun to a baby is not a good idea..there are so many other healthy foods to give a baby..why start it on the path to obesity!

I might point out, that looks like a wood screw.

Someone not only has a loose screw but maybe a bun short of a picnic?

Some people whinge and whine over anything. I got one of these in my bread bun once, I said nothing but took it home and used it for fixing the cupboard!

good thinking, turning a negative into a positive.

Every bag of flour that is turned into a commercial mixing bin should be put through a sieve for this very reason not the only reason but an important one.  Regardless this type of thing is bound to happen from time  time, the only reason to make a huge issue out of it is if the company involved fails to take responsibility if found at fault.

We used to do it in the factory I worked in because the rats used to chew through the bags and sometimes nest in the cavity, used to take ages to cut out the rat bits if they went through the mixer.
