Move over George, LNP involved in WAGE theft!

Those over 60 (single, no dependents) years of age and working as volunteers for 30 hours per fortnight on New Start get $16.32 per hour.

The minimum Australian hourly rate for work is $19.49 per hour.

Based on the above, a shortfall of $3.17 per hour. Galleries, museums, hospitals, and other businesses rely on the work-skills of volunteers to operate efficiently.

Can someone explain to me why this is not wage theft?

Why is the Attorney-General Christian Porter not turning the spotlight on his own party in wage-theft reform?

I agree with you Ajay Henry, but the lot of this ----- government are robbing scum and care NOTHIN about anything but their OWN pockets --

They expect others to live on nothing -- while they rob us blind!

How hypocritical is this government, they put forward fake concern about workers rights, talk about funding commisions that will cost us all money.

All this after putting all their efforts into desyroying the organisations that were formed to do this job.  They want working conditions controlled, but not by Unions and their members, they want them controlled by the government and their contributers.

They want us to be no more than slaves toeing the line and doing as se are told.

Another thing I wonder about, is if wage discrepancies are just odd mistakes, why do we never hear of thousands of people being over paid?

What is morrison's hourly rate. His rate is probably thousand time say that of a firefighter who were working at the gates of hell. The high end is where the big problem is like the CEOs etc etc

Oh for goodness sake, Newstart is NOT a wage. You could study/retrain instead to comply with the requirements.

You are right, Newstart was not designed as a wage. But the Morrison government is treating it like one. The vast majority of volunteers turn up at nine and do the required 15 hours per week, day-in-day-out. Organizations treat them as employees: they must inform of sick days, and advise in advance of holidays so their shift can be filled.

Retraining is a wonderful idea. The average Uni degree is around $12,000. If Scomo allows mature-age HEX debt, I'm all for it. But I believe the department is cracking down on that as well.

Further to the discussion, a Labor Party insider told me part of Bill's policy in the election he wasn't supposed to lose, was scrapping the volunteer system. Organizations who relied on volunteer services would (had Labor won) be required to hire them as casual workers. A much more sensible approach than Tony Abbott's half-baked plan. Unemployment figures would see the lowest in decades.

I just wonder, if all these compulsory volunteer jobs were to disapear, how many jobs would have to be created?

At the moment if you are employed for a few hours a week or participating in a training programme you are considered employed. This does wonders for government employment figures, but nothing for the people who are actually un or under employed.

I am getting a bit tired of watching politicians move figures around on spread sheets to create an appearence of progress but with no concrete results.

.

Both the LNP and Labor are like the nazis. The LNP got in power thu lying, cheating, bullying and conniving. Labor lost cos they are like the bumbling guards in hogans heroes - were unable to explain their policies clearly !!
