10-year-old gives five minutes of emotional advice for $2

Need some emotional advice? 10-year-old Ciro Ortiz thinks he’s up to the task. Like a lot of kids his age, Ciro has had to put up with his fair share of bullying. But he’s learned to rise above it and now it doesn’t bother him – it’s more the bad feelings it gives him.

He figured that if he felt like that, so must other people. So Ciro set up a little stand in the New York subway to offer emotional support to commuters.

"I think I'm wise enough to give good advice!" he says. And his parents think so too.

Every Sunday for two hours, he listens as people tell him about their problems regarding work, relationships and life. And for a bargain $2, he offers five minutes of advice.

On a busy day, Ciro can earn around $50 – all of which he donates to helping kids at his school who can’t afford to buy lunch or snacks.

Before his first day, Ciro said he was very anxious about how people would accept him.

"I didn't know if people were going to stare or laugh at me," he says. But then they "saw that I was taking it seriously."

Soon enough, his ‘clients’ started coming in droves.

Pretty cute, huh?

Now that's the best thing I've read so far for this year. What a kid, wisdom beyond his years. Google it and have a listen to the way he speaks.

Thanks for giving this thread a bump Banjo

.... otherwise I may have missed it

What a brilliant and enterprising boy this is

I agree with both the above posts....incredible young man. Can see him being a great leader one day!

Gee, I give advice to others here on a daily basis, and only get abused for it.

The innocence of youth is wisdom in itself - this kid might actually solve many peoples problems.

Out of the mouths of babes...who in their simplicity can speak more wisdom than all the specialists, academics and trained psychologists far and wide.

When it comes from the heart it is honest.

Oops:- er um sorry, but has the nice kid 'got tags on himself'

Are the people for real needing to ask a little kid to help them sort their lives out.

I know, I know people may want to throw tomatoes at me, BUT just my thinking.

Is it just me would not want to ask a 10 year old? to sort my problems out.

You haven't met my grand daughter or maybe you  never met smart kids.

I like your honesty Phyl and agree with you. Children need to receive wise guidance growing up, not give it to adults about things they haven't yet experienced like intimate relationships, employment hassles and the like. If my 10 year old grandchild did the same thing as this boy I would be truly worried about her motivations. I think the boy is displaying an audacious vanity and it is beyond me why any adult would comply to be counselled by him.

There are some children who possess maturity beyond their years and others whose wisdom and foresight cannot be explained, I would like to meet that young man before passing judgement .

Many things just cannot be explained but do exist.

Absolutely agree with you Cranky...Thank goodness for the wonderment of children…they view the world in so many  interesting ways. Children have a tendency to think about… digest and discuss things in a way that belies a wisdom way beyond their years and life experience. This young man is no exception…there are many children like him all over the world…doing great things…being great examples to young and old....

The joy of children is they believe they can be whatever they want to be.. and most truly believe when they grow up their career will be intertwined with something they love and are passionate about…they set such good examples and I for one am willing to follow their example…

Children don’t buy into the notion that anything stands in the way when it comes to their dreams for an ideal future coming true… and this kind of attitude and slant on life can be refreshing to hear for adults who sadly sometimes reach a point in their lives especially in their autumn years… where... being a grown-up forces them to give up on their childhood dreams.

Good on you…Ciro

"I grow sick and tired of all the same old lies
I might be a little young, so what's wrong?
You don't have to be old to be wise."

That's a quote from somewhere..will find it later....
