ACT politicians must have nothing better to do..

An example of the latest priority from the politicians of the nation's capital,

'In an Australian first, the ACT may recognise animals' feelings' [click for link]

One assumes that veterinarians may be obliged to obtain a cow's consent before preg testing.  And what about the dog that doesn't want to go to obedience training and would prefer a night out on the town with his/her doubtful mates instead?

The ACT won(sic) self-government in spite of an overwhelming poll (a real poll!) against it.  Since then, the posturing and antics (and excesses!) of politicians have belied the sober, responsible administration one would expect from the wads of $dough, entitlements and golden retirement benefits the politicians receive from the taxpayers.

Nothing about the really tough problems though, such as drug use and self-harm affecting youth and those OMGs who deal in drugs [click for link]

And Abe what have you contibuted to LJ's thread?  Zilch!  Just made it a platform you your insults.

I doubt LJ appreciates your presence on here ... in any way.

..and what have you contributed may I ask! You only came on this thread to berate the original poster because he asked you several times previously not to twist and divert from his topic.

Requests which, you blatantly ignore with your superfluous posts that have nothing to do with the topic being discussed.

The following provides the mechanics for making the 2019 amendment to Animal Welfare Legislation:

https://yoursay.act.gov.au Animal-Legislative-Amendments/proposed-changes-to-the-Animal-Welfare-Act-1992.

This amentment is made in consultation with the Australian Veterinary Association and general public.

A general history of legislation, with its amendments over the years, can be found here.

The Department of Agriculture (WA) in the Animal Welfare Act of 2002, in 2007.  It make interesting reading ... as much about animal welfare in the cattle industry as accessing  "overseas markets and enhances Australia's reputation as a supplier of high quality animal products".  The amendment to the act included direct engagement with key stakeholders and consultation with the industry.

LJ.

I agree with you about the need for governments to do more about youth harm.

Federal and State governments have addressed this along with implementing programs.  But it has not been enough.  Young people have fallen through the cracks.  Particularly our indigenous youth, which is a national shame.

This Australian Index is inaugral and long overdue.  Prior to 2016, the figures were not available.  It is utilized in conjunction with the International Youth Development Index of 170 countries.
